btw, there ARE fixed 'zonelines' for MW...
Find a place where the game will freeze, go blurry, and load,
Then stop at that place, and walk backwards a few feet..
You should be loading again...
You can find where the game is 'broken' into sections using the editor.
While this isn't as 'drastic' as most games (EQ/SS/Quake), it's certainly not seamless.
If you want to talk about MW's capability using a much smaller scale, on a quake3 style map (IE, very limited..) Let's use dungeons... Is it just me or do my FPS drop rapidly in those dwemer ruins? I suspect it's because I'm processing fully(at least the polygons etc)
the 'strange mechanical device' 30 yards away from me down the hall to the right and to the left.

All right, so I'm a guinea pig... I downloaded it, ran it, got it to work with my machine. Yes, at double the normal max view distance, those precious FPS take another hit, albeit not quite as terrible as I expected. It is definitely nice to have hotkeys that let you crank the draw distance up and down without having to drop back to the options screen.
I guess some people are having trouble running it...I downloaded the second version on Stasenko's site (the "static" version or something). Ran that EXE, which produced a readme file and another executable. Ran that executable. Started Morrowind, loaded a game. Alt-Tabbed back to the FPS optimizer and clicked the "Try to validate Morrowind" button at the bottom of the window, at which point it told me I had to go back into MW and set the draw distance to minimum. Did that, alt-tabbed back again, clicked the button, got a message that said it had validated the MW files, clicked to the "Manual" tab of the optimizer and set the maximum render distance to 3128+3128, then went back to MW...
Presto! At maximum render distance I can stand on the docks at Ebonheart and see Vivec to the northeast. Whoah.
Which leads me to what I see as the only problem with this program: while it increases your viewing distance, it ultimately makes the world seem smaller. My feeling since I started playing the game is that Morrowind seems huge not because it covers vast distances "as the crow flies," but because the designers wisely filled the landscape with twists and turns and hills and valleys and rivers that prevent you from taking a direct route anywhere, or even from seeing where you might end up if you COULD take a direct route to get somewhere. All the journeys seem longer if you can't see your goal...but by doubling the draw distance, many of your destinations will suddenly come into view.
To each his own, and I admit it's impressive to take in the vast sprawl of the world. But I'm more likely to keep the draw distance cranked to the game's default distance. I get the impression that the developers designed the map with that particular view distance in mind; cranking it up changes the "feel" of the world, not necessarily always for the better. But it's still an awfully cool little program to play with, and kudos to Stasenko for churning it out so quickly.

As for your reaction - I don't know where you hail from, but I just though the Russian/Troja reaction rather funny... seemed rather ironic to me(but hey I'm danish - we do that all the time.... :) ). I surely don't hope that those who wrote that stuff in anyway meant it... No one should be classified and evaluated on basis of their origin - rather one should take peoples origin into consideration when considering other people's actions and reactions! However we all hail from different countries and different cultures - and NO! we cannot be expected just to waltz in and understand people with another background... However humor and jokes is what really helps break down prejudices - this is at least my experience! So no need to get angry or flame anybody - but dropping a humorous line at someones expense shouldn't enrage anyone...
Just some thoughts!

I come from the USA and your damn right i meant it all. It is totally rediculous and childish anymore to me (granted my post was just as childish) and it was a moment where i chose to let out how i feel given the things the world/I is going thru at this time. I'm just truly over it. Truly saddened by the Corruption in our churches/ homeland/ Goverment/terrorism/racism/ it greaves me to see these things and yes i lost my father in SEPT 11 so its a major factor in why i am how i am now. He died because of people who are IGNORANT/RACIST. I do apologize for my first post i was really pissed at the posts of some people. So take it for whatever you want just my feelings and my opinions.

The "be cautious" message I posted had nothing to do with race or nationality. I saw a vague message encouraging people to download an executable file from a very rudimentary web site which contained little information. I don't care what the last two letter of the URL are, that's a recipe for disaster.
Anyway, I finally downloaded and ran the program, and would like to congratulate the author. Being able to increase the view distance makes for some very cool screenshots! I will post a link to a couple on Monday.
Here's how I used it (on Windows XP)
1) Run the self-extracting EXE
2) Run the .exe inside; it displays a message about not finding the MW process
3) Run MW - do not load a game
4) Go to video Options and change viewing distance to minimim
5) Alt-TAB back to the optimizer and click validate; it reports finding the process. Look through the tabs for the hotkeys; remember them
6) Alt-TAB back to MW, load a game. Try the hotkeys -- cool!
