I'd done with this game quite a while ago (after completing the main quest), but I 'm thinkning about starting up again with a new character. I never did get to become a vampire.
The thing that bothered me a little bit was that being any other class other than a warrior/fighter just seemed pointless because you were left pathetically weak at the start of the game, so I just took the easy route and worked my way up to the top of the fighter's guild.
I'll probably try it out as a thief/mage class this time. Does anyone else agree that MW is heavily biased towards fighting classes?

Not at all.
I've started out as a thief-type, with Sneak, Security, Speechcraft, Short Sword, and Light Armor as my major skills, and have had no problem going through the game.
In fact, it's easy to get your character to almost 100 in every skill without getting into a single fight. It's all about money and training.
I think the combat is unbalanced in general, but biased toward one class over another? Nah.

If you've played the game for long enough, you'll come to love the difficulty of starting a mage or theif character.

One thing keeps being a mage hard too... all the highest level enemies have freaking reflect ability.

No shit. But I much prefer 50m radius fireballs. :)

There's a certain item in the game that makes playing as a thief type ridiculously easy:
A very powerful Chamelon ring. You can find it in an encounter where someone asks you to find their ring at the bottom of a water hole. (It isn't that ring, but the ring their companion is wearing.) In any case, the Chamelon effect was so powerful it worked like invisibility, so I would hit enemies and they would not be able to hit back. Of course it only had limited charge, but when I kept it for "difficult" encounters the rest of the game was trivial.
Possible this got changed or patched or some such, of course.

I found that using a bound dagger with my Argonian Mage worked well to start with. Once the short blade skill increased, I've been doing quite well with the sword I "inherited" from the Dark Brotherhood.

Nope, still there, and still as powerful, even after all the patches. In fact, after the Robe of St. Roris got nerfed in the first patch, the above item is probably the most overpowered non-combat item in the game.

Amen Zaphod! and forever may it be so. I truly enjoy backstabbing Daedra/Golden Saints/Transcendant Sleepers and doing critical damage using that very Amulet. Well, that and the Ebony Longsword I enchanted with "Soul Trap" and "Absorb Health" on it. (BTW, I know that there is an "Absorb Magika" spell, cause the construction set says there are a total of twenty-some-odd people out there who know the spell, but does anyone SELL that spell? if so, Gods have mercy upon Vvardenfell! *Cue Evil Laughter, punctuated by lightning crashes*)
