Started replaying the game. I remember that the game was hard when I first played it, but this is bad.
I've just finished the traverse the railroad thing and supposed to go to Fox. I did this but when he asks for a health pack, I don't have one. I'm barely alive so make it by the skin of my teeth back to Bess to try and find some rad hypos or vodka. Regain a little health and go back to fox who is now dead. Take his stuff and now supposed to see Seirof. Get ambushed by some guys who I can avoid if I want, but I decide to fight them to see if I can get more rad hypos. And that's my problem. I keep dying, not because of the combat, but because of radiation.
By the time I get to Seirof, I'm barely alive because I keep dying of radiation. There's no way I can survive that fight, and I can't find Sidorivich. Where the hell is this guy? At least then I may be able to buy some rad hypos.
I remember when I first played the game was hard, but it seems even harder now. Has this last patch made the game even more difficult?

Strangely enough, I have felt that the game has been EASIER since the patch. There are many places where I remember that there were many more enemies than there are now... Or maybe I just have a bad memory... ;)
On the other hand, radiation is not a problem for me at all until, say, the Red Forest area. At that point it's so easily avoided because you don't actually have to go through any to progress...

I didn't notice a change in radiation levels or the drop rate on anti-rad kits. The biggest change seems to be the Alife spawn rate - kicked up a notch from v1.003 - and zone character/flavor.
Example: Wild Territory
1) Increased dog pack spawn rates.
2) Added a zerg of undead rats.
3) New Duty camp near the zone to the bar.
Even with those changes the game didn't get that much harder but it did make things a bit more interesting.

Radiation isn't a problem for me either until I reach Red Forest. But I was lucky enough to find the Urchin artifact in Agroprom underground, makes some areas much easier.
I do notice that I seem to be getting less healthpacks on this runthrough than before, but maybe that's a side effect of me playing on Veteran instead of Stalker difficulty.

That's not an example but the only place where population was supposed to change officially. If respawn rate REALLY changed in other places (can't confirm it yet), then that's undocumented or unwanted feature of the patch.

I hate those dogs. It is like their skin is made of kevlar. Shoot them in the head or use a nuke is how I see it. But I do like them in Wild Territory, they attack the enemies for me to loot later. :sly:

Pick modified MP5 (9mm ammo) at the end of anomalies filled railroad tunnel in Garbage. It's great against dogs thanks to high rate of fire.

I did go in there when I was in the area, and I just found craploads of artifacts, no sign of a gun. At the end of the tunnel there is a fire and two beds made by stalkers. I was hoping there was a body somewhere in that place.

Hmmm...
Yes, a fire and some beds as far as I remember. I found modified MP5 there, don't remember if it was just lying openly, in the crate, or there was a body with it. Maybe it's random.

It may very well have been lying on the ground, I can't for my life see weapons in STALKER when they aren't in a crate or other "storage", they just become invisible in the environment like Sam Fisher into pitch black shadows. It would be lovely if there was an item glow mod for the game, my eyes don't do the job well enough.
