A question for DDL:-
Since you HDTP fellas have to reanimate the characters by hand, are you going the extra mile to make their movements more fluid/realistic?
Cheers.

Heck, I loved it. In that strange "flawed, but still 10/10" kind of way.
EDIT:

Judging by NotGunther, no.

So nice of you not to be a dick about it. :tsktsk:
But no: we're using the original animations because someone very clever wrote a program that can map new meshes to old anims. Making the anims by hand would take us years.
Plus each animated character is stored as a complete mesh for each animation frame, and the engine tweens them together. Making animations smoother would require more meshes, and the filesize gets exhorbitant. DeusexCharacters is 26 meg with ALL the DX meshes in. HDTP Gunther alone is about two thirds of that.

Hey, I love HDTP, I just don't like the reenvisioned character designs. And I'm grateful for making the new character models optional.

Does the final Anna model still have the "window" on her costume? That is so out of place, TBH.

I know several people claim that darkness-based stealth is unrealistic, but that's plain ignorance.
I don't think van Hellsing is saying that so much as saying that in a future setting such as Deus Ex, there could very easily be reasons given for its lack of effectiveness, e.g. cheap and effective low-light gear / implants etc.

The problem then being that these cheap and effective low-light gear / implants have to magically vanish, never to be seen again, within the space of 25 years or so.:erg:

It also happened to flashlights.
DDL on 5/2/2009 at 12:10
Quite. Technical limitation though that may be, clearly (if we are taking the setting in DX as read) it happened. Or at least, they figured patrolling guards in fairly well lit areas wouldn't need torches.
Still: If it came down to it, I would much rather have 'the ability to hide in the dark BUT the badguys have torches' (something we can easily do now with even fairly old game engines), rather than the slightly more confusing 'darkness plain doesn't work, so find something solid to hide behind'.
It seems more consistent. Otherwise it risks descending into a long series of sprints between chest-high walls.

Maybe they get hit by a patent lawsuit.
