Saw this the other day and was thoroughly entertained. It reminded me, more than anything, of Jonathan Creek - the whole mental state of Holmes, and Watson's cynical yet caring approach to making sure he doesn't go completely off the rails, not to mention the clever, if slightly cliched mystery.
Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law had great onscreen chemistry and sold a believable relationship. The love interests were interesting and fleshed out. The action scenes were integrated well into the plot and didn't feel tacked on as trailer filler.
The only thing that didn't make sense to me was Lord Blackwood giving Holmes a big clue in the jail cell. Was it just his ego?
Yeah, overall, a great film and surprisingly good and atypical of Guy Richie.
* For the uninitiated - very good British TV show about a magician's assistant who specializes in solving impossible-seeming, super-obscure crimes (such as an old man, too frail to kill himself, found dead inside a locked room with no exits)
