Well I've just finished all the writs and special duties that I'm going to get although from the Morag Tong but due to my current skills I'm still only a 'master'. At this point in the game (about 3 and half weeks) after purchasing it I thought I'd just write my thoughts on this faction for you all to read but more specifically for anyone who wants to join it.
The ‘quests' or writs for the most part involve, as you would expect assassinations, which while fun at the beginning do become a bit boring as you progress. Now I deliberately didn't do any of the ‘special duties' side quests until I'd finished doing the writs so perhaps my overall impression of the quests is a bit unfair but I'm the sort of person who likes to start one thing complete it and then move onto the next hence my decision.
My main gripe about this faction and how it has been designed is the fact that to complete the side quests (the collection of all the sanguine items) you have to have either done the main quest or be doing it while advancing in the Morag Tong. The reason you can't complete the sanguine items quest is because some of the sanguine items are in the hands of characters you have to interact with during the main quest e.g. Domb, and Gnaw Tooth from Ald Daedroth and people in the red mountain region.
(For those of you who are confused how I could know where and who have sanguine items without actually finding them I have a print out telling me where I can find all the items and whether the people are part of the main quest.)
A few of you might say that you don't ‘have to' collect all the sanguine items to become grand master which is true but once you do become the grand master you can't complete the sanguine item quest because either the old grandmaster is dead or he later disappears.
The Morag Tong was the first faction I joined (excluding the blades) and I intended to move through the ranks become grand master and then start the main quest. Since discovering I can't complete the sanguine quest without starting and advancing through the main quest I feel a bit cheated and despondent with the game.
Anyway the purpose of this post is not to whine about my situation (well a small part of it is ;) ) but to warn other noobs who intend to join the Morag Tong that they may well have difficulties with the sanguine quest without doing the main quest first.
Cheers
(I intend to start up a new character who'll be joining the Redoran Great House as soon as he can - can I expect any similar ‘problems' with completing all of the Redoran quests?)

On the contrary... I highly reccomend doing the Morag Tong quests as soon as possible for maximum effect; they get pissy if you've killed the subject of a Writ before they issue it to you. Sure, you may have to backtrack a little on other factions' quests, but like that's news.
My 1st time thru, I never finished the Morag Tong missions because of that, so the 2d time thru I did all of the Morag Tong quests & got all the sanguine items before I even started the main plotline (well, okay, I delivered the package and then did my own thing until I'd GM'd all the 'normal' factions).

Really? Oh well each to their own...
I suppose i'm just annoyed that either way i do it i've messed up the 'normal' path of events.
Thanks for spending the time to read my post its very long and on hind sight i should have just kept it short and sweet rather than going on and on the way i did.
Cheers. :)

I don't understand where you get the point... "I cant get the sanguine items without doing the main quest"... Most of the sanguine items are found on daedra worshippers, the one on red mountain is just a random daedric shrine, just happens to be in a blighted area, but it's still a daedric shrine not related to the main quest. Ald daedroth, I found that place before I started the main quest, and got the sanguine items, you don't have to be on the main quest mission that makes you go there to get the items... actually, the main quest was easier on that part cause I didn't have to worry about the wise woman dying...
and btw: I've seen the list of where to find the sanguine items too... I'll post the link for others who may want to see it too.

Note: This page has information on all morag tong quests, so if you don't want to see all that, don't click on the link.

Heh thanks very much for your help Kilana that site has a much more detailed list and information than i do so i can see now that you're right - it isn't necessary to have completed the main quest to get all the sanguine items.
Thanks again :)

I'm having a similar problem... Gnaw Tooth (or whatever his name is) just simply IS NOT in Ald Daedroth, and neither is his friend with another Sanguine item. What events have to come to pass before these guys spawn?

Just wondering... at first EH sends you to get sanguine items. I collected the rest by looking at the list here. But what's the 'strict no help' way of finding them all... just random wandering? I'm wondering if he keeps sending you after all of them if you don't finish the writs and advance first...
Forsythe on 6/12/2002 at 18:14
Nah, he does give you a number of leads on 'em, but some you just can't get unless you listen to everyone (and I mean everyone) about the latest rumors, et al. One rumor will say that so-and-so has nice shoes, so you go find 'em, save, kill 'em, and see if it was accurate. Repeat that, ad nauseum.
I suppose it's possible to do it with much perseverance and no list.... but me, I prefer the list ;)

I've just been through Ald Daedroth to do the last Four Corners pilgrimage and there were ordinators and assorted Daedra worshippers there, incl. an orc who thought he was a Khajit and went meow, and I killed two of the baddies and got sanguine belt and a sanguine something else. But the baddy boss (?) dialogue gave me an option to plead for a home for the Ahemmusa, although I have not been given this as a quest, or even heard of it before (but I encountered 'skipped quests' before, so maybe it's one of these). Anyway, perhaps either the 4 corners or the Ahemmusa have some role in activating your orc with sanguine thingy.
Ania (who'd like to know what this reference to the Ahemmusa means)

In case this is relevant, and in reference to my foregoing post, I never joined the Morag Tong, and the NPCs with the sanguine items were present at Ald Daedroth anyway. (I intend to replay the game and join thieves and MT and a different great house with the new character)
