Thinking the the name is boring is obnoxious?
Wow.
I'd love (hate) to hear your opinion on Brendan Eich!

I'd like to know what you think my opinion is on him.
And yeah, it was obnoxious. It was a completely useless driveby criticism that makes no sense -- both the criticism itself and its very existence. Of all the things you could criticize -- everything from its precious artschool aesthetic to its clear Fez influence to the Le Film Artistique incomprehensibility of... whatever the fuck is going on in the game -- you pick the name, and call it "boring" of all things.

I've no idea what you think of him. You're too unpredictable. You know what I think about it all though, don't you?
I like the look of this game and I keep forgetting to get my gf to buy it on the iPad. All those things you mentioned? Those are all the things I like.

Got it.
This wonderful stuff. I even like the Annoying Crow People!
GET IT

I'm pretty sure you think his stepping down is ridiculous and everyone should just shut the fuck up because god he only donated to a hate campaign wtf do you intolerant LGBT activists waannnnt.
You can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think I'm at least in the general ballpark.
SubJeff on 9/4/2014 at 23:15
Halfway right.
I think it's ridiculous he was essentially forced to step down because he has an opinion that is unpopular with the zeitgeist. I think its a dangerous precedent and I'm firmly a Voltairist. I don't agree with what he did, with what he supported, but he has the right to think whatever he wants.
I'm guessing you think the opposite and that we should get rid of these terrible, terrible homophobes who are good for nothing, nothing at all?
june gloom on 10/4/2014 at 00:58
So how's that job at the Daily Mail going for you?
I think he donated -- as is his right -- to a hate campaign at a time when even most Democrats weren't pro-gay.
But actions have consequences. Freedom of speech -- and you know damn well how I feel about that -- does not mean freedom from consequences. It is not a one-way street. He exercised his right to free speech with a $1000 donation to Prop 8. OKCupid and others exercised their right to free speech by protesting this man's elevation to CEO. He stepped down because the negative PR threatened to damage Mozilla. It's simple business. It's no different than boycotting (or supporting) Chick-Fil-A.
Also, "unpopular with the zeitgeist" is a wonderfully, uselessly neutral way of describing regressive, harmful political views. That's like describing racism as "unpopular with the zeitgeist." No fucking shit it's unpopular, because hating someone just for who they are -- black, white, brown, Renzatic, gay, straight, trans*, Duck, whatever -- is worse than useless and has no place in modern society. This is why people get noisy about it, because it's no less backwards than geocentricism.

I don't mind a thread changing topics, but do you guys deliberately have to be like "Hey, wanna argue about Brendan Eich next?" "Sure, this is a thread about Monument Valley on the iOS after all, so what else would we talk about!"

We're edgy and unpredictable like that.
