My new monitor came in today. I think I might've gone overboard, since I now have to crane my head up to see the top of the screen.
But damn, I didn't realize just how badly the backlight had faded on my old monitor. The thing was about 7 years old, and I was used to whites being a little on the warm side. Now I've got this monitor with an awesome screen, and the colors and contrast are all like popping in my face hardcore.
First game I played was DS3, and...holy shit.

Edit: nevermind, just saw the "32" QHD" above. Nice!

Oh, but it is.
Though I'm wondering if I should've opted for GSync, considering all the raving people do over it once they've seen it in action. Is it really worth the extra $200 premium?

The weird thing with G-Sync is, you see it on monitors attached to a lot of high-spec machines, but the reality is that people with lower spec or older machines benefit the most. If you can maintain high framerates, you're never going to see the benefit of the technology.
But if you're used to your system dipping and stuttering when under load, this is where you will most appreciate the tech.
Because the refresh rate matches your FPS frame-by-frame, games always appear smooth with no stuttering or tearing. Yes, you will still notice when frames go sub-30 FPS, but it's a much more pleasant experience with G-Sync.
My machine's getting on a bit now, with my CPU being ~6 years old, and my graphics card's a 970. I've done some testing and know that the next upgrade I should make is a new CPU, which will basically necessitate a new PC (new CPU = new motherboard & RAM at the very least). The bottlenecks in my system are definitely motherboard & CPU.
Yet with the purchase of a G-Sync monitor, I feel like I've extended my machine's life by at least another couple of years.

Good to know. It might be worth considering later, when prices have gone down a bit, but I guess I shouldn't be too concerned about it right now.
...even though running at my new native res has exposed some of the weaknesses of my trusty ole 970. games that used to run 60FPS at 1080p can get a little chuggy at 1440p.

See, I play everything native 1440P thanks to G-Sync, and rarely is anything unplayable. And I'm on a first gen GTX970 (non-Ti).

Well hell. Now I wanna get one.
Out of curiosity, are there any compelling reasons to use Displayport over HDMI? I have the cable, and the appropriate ports on both my GPU and new monitor, but I don't wanna reach back behind my computer and mess up all my wiring unless I have a damn good reason for doing so.

I guess it's a question of bandwidth: can regular (probably v1.4) HDMI do 1440p at 144Hz? Displayport can, but I haven't found anything concrete on whether HDMI can handle it. Perhaps you'll have more luck trying to find an answer to that one.
Question to Malf or anyone else who has a G-Sync monitor: I have this occasional issue where the screen takes a vertical line that's perhaps 3-4 pixels wide from the middle of the screen and for some reason shifts this to the left or right margin. This persists until the screen mode changes (or I switch the monitor off and on again). I've seen this mentioned a couple of times on forums. No idea if it's a G-Sync issue or an Acer issue or if it's to do with my Nvidia card; I don't even know if it's something that affects many users or not. Has anyone else encountered this?
(Also, on a different note: perhaps this whole discussion of monitors and G-Sync would make more sense in a dedicated thread in Technical & Troubleshooting Arena?)
Edit: What I've just found on the HDMI/Displayport issue: apparently you'd need a HDMI 2.0 cable to get 1440p/144Hz. If you've got that, you don't need a Displayport cable.

Mines 1440p @ 75hz, and seems to be doing alright.
Also, I have Freesync...AND I CAN'T USE IT! :D

Thirith, if I remember correctly, you have the same monitor as me don't you? The XB270HU?
Or did you get the more recent model, the XB271HU?
Either way, that doesn't sound right to me. You may want to see about getting it replaced under warranty.
