I remember playing this fan mission years ago, but back then I gave up on frustration.
Now I replayed it and finally managed to finish it. Overall the mission is hard, but doable and rewarding.
Very nicely done, not too large for a keyhunt-style mission, nice atmosphere and well executed horror elements.
In some parts the mission is unfair, so I would not recommend it to people new to fan missions but rather to Thief veterans.
Here are some helpful tips for anyone who is playing this mission for the first time.
- this mission contains combat elements and a boss fight. People without combat experience might find it hard, if not frustrating.
- the beginning is probably the hardest. You start with no weapons. Be quick on foot and try to lure the undead to the remaining mechanists. You can hop on ladders or open doors to flee/distract your enemies from the remaining mechanist guards.
- search any bodies you find carefully for keys.
- watch every new room you access very carefully. Keys or quest items can me missed easily.
- since the beacon apparatus does not have an input window, don´t brute force different combinations or it will screw you up later - you might find it impossible to enter the correct code.
- don´t ignite the gas in the dungeon room or it will screw the mission up. The corpses may have keys and the fire makes the rooms behind inaccessible . Later when a beast spawns there and after you found the below sewer gate key, you will happily find good use for the gas.
- Sometimes you won´t find a key to a locked passage. Get your other objectives done first and maybe a scripted sequence will open that passage.
- a secret stash of molotov cocktails is hidden in the kitchen.

Not everything is as bad as you think.;)
If you ignite the gas, you can use the wrench again to shut the gas valve, and the fire goes out again. I do not know whether you can actually somehow end up on the side of the fire where no valve is, and without being able to return to the other side, but I do not think that would be possible.
I have tried to screw up the code input mechanism for the beacon, but failed. Every time I used the right code again, it worked, no matter how many digits I entered before. Apparently, the digit that starts the code also resets the machine, thus giving you the opportunity to try various codes if you want to. Besides, I also was not able to read the first digit from the code when I found it, but just tried all combinations possible. There was no malfunction then either.

I appreciate the feed back, and it made me think. Whelp, we have a rating system. Now, we need a warning system. Difficulty, more so than just saying expert. :p (You sure this wasn't made by GORT.)
