Did anyone else catch this last night?
Absolutely brilliant, not that I was one of those folks who were discounting Matt Smith beforehand; but it was a great mix of Tennant’s Doctor and a glimpse into the crazy kickassness of his own.
All I kept thinking was “want more” and every episode should run for an hour.
This was a film-like production of the highest degree, it honestly didn’t feel like a Saturday night BBC show. And yes it dealt with some fairly scary moments and I loved Amy Pond, I loved her legs, I loved that she isn’t a cop but a kissogram, I loved her innocence and that she definitely seems to be a strong-willed good actress I loved the sexual hints between them, I loved the music, I loved the writing, I loved the film style, I loved the story, yes I even thought the aliens did their part and I have a feeling they’ll be back, I love the new Tardis interior and exterior, I loved that the story had funny moments but was like Shakespeare compared to what Russell T Davies would write (remember the burping trash cans??), I loved that everyone was a solid actor and got me interested, I loved the opening sequence, I loved the somewhat cheesy special effects, I loved the giddy excitement The Doctor showed when he finally got the new key to the Tardis, I loved that they didn’t mention U.N.I.T or (much) of the previous stories, and I loved the end sequence with the previous Doctors ending with Matt Smith to show how badass he is - “basically. run”.
I haven’t been this excited about a tv show since I started watching BSG all those years ago. Any worries that the show was dumbed down or aimed towards kids have been obliterated and I can totally see why Moffat went for Matt Smith - and that’s just from the first episode. I am very very glad Smith has signed on for another season and with any luck that will be longer than this series 12 episodes.
In conclusion: Want. More.

I was also very impressed. I've vaguely followed the last few series but haven't watched regularly since Eccleston, though I have a feeling I'll be tuning in every week for this Doctor.

A very good start to the season. I'm a bit torn because I thought David Tennant was really getting into the character. However, the opening episode was far better than expected and although credit has to be given to the actors I can't help but think a lot of it was down to Steven Moffat.

I'd say it's down to them all. Actors have to be capable of playing the part, but they need a decent director and writer to make the part worth playing.

I was prepared to be be disappointed and outraged but man was I wrong.
It was superb, Matt Smith was excellent and Karen Gillan is so hot (and of course a good actor ;))
There were a few rushed moments but these could easily be forgiven (That stuff about the virus and the guy with the laptop)
Got to agree with theFonz, more, now.

While I did love David Tennant and would gladly have seen him stay; I think he was limited by the writing of RTD and his team. If you watch the Confidential show on after it, Moffat explains that he basically tore the whole crew apart and started from scratch.
I think the main thing was the whole thing beautifuly came together and while I agree there were times it was a bit hoaky and daft thas ok.
What did you honkies think of the new opening theme and video? I personally liked it and it fits the tone of the show perfectly.
So annoyed I'm going to miss the next 2 episodes though what with being in Australia :grr:

Honkies? In any event, I thought the new opening was a nice change on whole. A bit darker which was nice although I still have to be won over by the "DW" logo.
Matthew on 4/4/2010 at 19:25
The 'DW' has been used before, hasn't it?
Al_B on 4/4/2010 at 19:29
Yes - I think it was shown a few months ago. It's not something I hate - it's just a knee-jerk reaction.

Oh man this is so much fucking better than most of Russell T. Davie's crap.
