MP Robot UNN-034 on 24/3/2009 at 07:19
I just recently beat SS2 for the first time with no mods. I wanted to play the original before putting on the new graphical updates - which look AMAZING by the way. Like giving a pretty girl just the right ammount of makeup, makes her even prettier.
I haven't checked out any of the expansion mission mods out there yet though.
Is it possible to make a mod where the player character is someone/something other than the main SS2 guy?
I was thinking how awesome it would be if you could play a short mission where you're in control of one of those robots! Maintenance, Security, or Military Police. Even more impossible, I was thinking how neat it'd be if, instead of getting upgrades, new weapons, etc, you started out as a helpless protocol droid, having to avoid enemies, but then could upload your programming into a maintenance robot to fight back. Later you'd find a security robot, and an MP robot. It'd be pretty different. You couldn't climb ladders, duck, lean.. Gameplay would be simplistic, one weapon, (maybe nanites would be health?) but it could be a fun 4 hours gameplay or so. And all the 3D models are already there. I think those robots in SS2 were really memorable and very well done. I'm one of those guys that love military robots, so that MP robot with the fusion cannon is just awesome.
SS2 is a GREAT game. I played it through the first time as a HackerMAX StrengthMAX StandardMAX HeavyMAX terminator type. I found that far easier than playing the prospective PsiMAX that I'm going for now. And, going Psi heavy plays completely diferently for me. It's like a whole new game. And this time I have the basketball!
Anyways, best wishes folks!

Well technically all the FM (fan missions) out there have you playing as a different character, though nothing as odd as a robot.
Not sure how playing as a protocol droid would be much fun, though playing a hybrid and beating up defenseless screaming crewmembers with a pipe sounds like a good time. Sadly SS2 is pretty limited in terms of modding potential and people willing to go to the trouble to do something so off-the-wall.
Also having the 3D models already there probably isn't an important detail seeing as SS2 is an FPS meaning you never see your own character (except in awful pre-rendered cutscenes)

Well, you see what you presume yourself to look like when you play SS2 four player co-op :).
And of course playing as a protocol droid would be lame. But, maybe you'd start out in a section with a lot of protocol robot shipping crates, and that'd be the respawn point if you died. So if your awesome shiny security robot you were controlling dies you respawn there as a lowly protocol droid and have to go find a new ride. Ah, the life of a carnage happy helpful AI.
Level design would be simplified, gameplay would be simplified, the sprites for the all the weapons are already there, sound effects... Seems like it would be one of the easier mods.
Robots are awesome :D.

It sounds like you want to take every single thing that makes System Shock 2 beloved and revered, and replace it with CLUNKY ROBOT ACTION.
Well, each to their own.
Sadly I think you might just have to tackle that endeavor yourself.
Go on, download Shockedit. It's a piece of cake to use

This is false. The editor may not be the easiest to use, but it's very flexible.

This is unfortunately very, very true. :(

(

Hi everyone, I didn't know there were still people who play the System Shock games. They are masterpieces.
I've always thought a mod from just an average crew member's point of view would be good. Rather than being a hi tech soldier you are just an average worker having to cope with a crazy situation.

I always wanted a prequel FM
Maybe hanging out on Tau Ceti V with Diego and Korenchkin. Then watching shit gradually go to pieces on the VB with Bronson's witch hunt and the feeble resistance attempt.
Ah well, I shall be contented with what few wonderful FMs we already have.
