I'm almost over the game that must not be nam4d and when I was thinking back on TII when I remembered there were once plans for another reboot, a modern day thief, many years ago. I din't like the idea at the time but I now I feel that maybe it could have been nice (better than nothing). Of course that would depend on how they did it but if it was mainly a change to a more modern setting and the compelling story and great game-play was still mostly intact it could have been fun I believe. The pagans could have been some weird new environmentalist group, the hammerites could still be hammerites, and mansions to loot wouldn't seem out of place either. The bow could be replaced by a pneumatic pistol capable of shooting both darts and bb's that could disable lights and security devices and guards... etc. But I don't really know what their plans for "modern thief" was, I only ever saw a couple of concept art pictures at some time (can't find them now, although I believe they are on a harddrive somewhere).
Does anyone know anything else about the plans for this game?
Do you think it could be fun? (I assume most people, like me, would consider it sub optimal but it could still be fun?).
What would sell better fantasy thief or modern thief if it was released today?
Just curious what others think and what happened to that idea. :)

:o Thanks (In my defence I
did look but the title of the thread seemed to indicate it was related to the latest published game.)

That's a fair assumption to have made. And I was only ribbing, not seriously criticizing.
