Cool, I know Blender can read all of those (I don't know about UV data for 3DS and OBJ, but if most of them don't have UVs already then it's not an issue).

Yes, all the models in that list have both high and low poly models already complete (thought I said that?)
Obviously we aren't expecting people to come up with textures sight-unseen...how would that even be possible? :)
If you're interested in one, we'll forward the files to you. We hope to have visual database put together soon so it will be easier to see which models look interesting.

I might claim the viktrola if nobody else wants it. :) crispiness at fastmail dot fm.

Oh, I'm fairly happy to help, in a perhaps intermittant fashion. But as stated before, I don't have Doom3 (yet),and I'm rather wary of playing with assets for things I can't see in game to test - I've had problems with textures and meshes not coming out right once in game before.
I'm just trying to get my head around how this is going to work - I mean the deluxe bed and the hall table look like my kind of toys...
The whole thing just seems kind of erratic, and if you already have the low poly versions then you should have the unwraps and the normal/ heghtmaps

I get the impression that many of them don't have low-poly versions, plus not all modellers are necessarily good at UV mapping anyway.

You don't have to be good at UV mapping. As linked above, Unfold3d does it for you. A chimpanzee could use it.
The only problem is textures that require a specular map, for that you'd really need Doom 3 installed to check them out in-game.

I know, I was just responding to Ziemanskye's question regarding why the models don't already have uv maps.
Blender makes UV mapping very easy, which is why I have never understood why so many modellers see it as a problem, unless other modelling packages don't have such good UV mapping facilities.
Anyway, I'll take the water pump if it is still going.

In terms of what I've done with Max, Maya, and a brief look at Softimage, I don't think it's the unwrapping that's really the problem. It's just time consuming and dull, so people don't really want to do it.:D

I've put this off long enough, I'll help out too. We'll see if I have any skill at this. A less complex model maybe, or textures if you still have some that need to be done.

I'll start PM'ing people with links to the resources shortly. :)
