Hey,
When I was playing through Deus Ex for the first time - and enjoying every minute of it - there was one little thing that stuck out in regard to the story which now seems quite funny to me in retrospect. As you know, when you enter the Free Clinic in Hell's Kitchen there are a couple bums in the waiting room talking to each other about the NSF. One of them - I can't remember which - then says he actually fought with them back in the day, up at "Squalnomie" in the Pacific Northwest.
Well, as anyone who comes from that part of the country can tell you, the name of that town/area is "Snoqualmie" not "Squalnomie"! :laff:
So, unless this is a made-up name, or is the name of an area so small it doesn't even show up on Google, this is obviously quite a curious little mistake - which got me thinking: are there other mistakes in the game when it comes to plot, characters, areas, story, etc? It would make sense in a game with so large a scope as the great Deus Ex. :thumb:

And they are having this converstaion everytime you visit the clinic. Senile old men...

It could be intentional, too, you know (by the designers, not the guy himself)... like the guy himself is screwing it up because it was so long ago ... and they knew people from that area might get a kick out of it. Or maybe the voice actor just read it wrong and nobody caught it, but that's more or less the same thing as the NPC himself screwing it up, since it'd be for the same reason (it's easy to screw up if you're not from there).

For some reason it is very easy to screw up snoqualmie and call it squalnomie. It drove me nuts when I was there. The waterfall is gorgeous, though...

True, some have even suggested he had too much to drink (being a bum and all), but he doesn't seem to have a problem with any of the rest of his speech.
Maybe the reason it caught my attention was it has never occured to me to pronounce in that way - perhaps because whenever I'm there it's always snowy, which lends it self better to the name
Snoqualmie in my memory.
