you could just have Faith remark to the boss/partner, "I don't like the look of those guards" when Faith is close enough. The player will naturally stop and look around at that point, because it's a hazard.
But that would be less... (wait for it) cinematic*. If they do that for every corner, then yes, it will get annoying. It has to be timed well and done with style and only for real landmark objects/objectives. The devs apparently like to use the word "fluent" to describe every aspect of their game, and it did look fairly fluent. I dunno, I just didn't mind it in the first game. I remember them often using it in places where I would stop myself anyway, cause I turned a corner or went on an edge and would have to stop and look down anyway. Since Mirror's Edge Catalyst is open world, it might not work that well anymore, but we'll see how ingenuitive they are with it.
*I get that some people don't like the word "cinematic" to describe something about a game, but I think it's important in Mirror's Edge for the immersive atmosphere.

From what I've seen so far, I'm skeptical that the new ME is going to retain the challenge the original game had. That and cutting to third person (why does anyone think it's a good decision to do that in a first person game) could end up killing it for me.

Nice attitude. Hey guys, its been around since 2010, so let's just give up and say it's great. Because you know, companies never ever listen to their fan base.
Eva, you suck. You've become a fucking lemming.
(And it still blows in DXHR too, btw).

Yeah, I accept the switch to third person for the takedowns and Icarus landing stuff because I really like the rest of the game, but that doesn't mean it's not an awful feature that you should be able to turn off. At least with the third-person cover shit, I was able to unbind the key for that and forget it existed. It wasn't something that was required to play the game properly unlike, say, Hell's Highway where you'd be visible/shootable while ducked behind cover unless you used the third-person-cover ability.
Despite all the things people dislike about Thief 4, at least it stayed first person most of the time while you were playing the game (aside from those 2 or 3 awful 30 second pipe-climbing bits).

I thought that video was posted around here a few weeks ago and I commented on it then, but can't see it now.
Anyway, like I said then, I thought the movement animation and level design looked unfinished, so I hope this is just an alpha version and those will improve.
On the topic of the camera cut-aways, the thing is this kind of gameplay is very sensitive to flow and momentum... the way jumps and maneuvers work differently only when you keep your momentum, etc, it pulls you into a flow with every action you take. I mean, that's like the core mechanic around which the entire game revolves. So the camera cutting away to break the flow is kind of odd, in a way that doesn't apply in the same way as FPS where momentum and flow aren't as critical, and not the centerpiece of the entire game.
Well, if they rig a way where you don't feel the flow being broken when it happens, that'd be preferable, if they insist on doing it. There are better and worse ways to do it.

Just chiming in to say the forced 3rd person takedowns + icarus landing in DX sucked bigtime, totally looking forward to it for Mirrors Edge 2

In DX:HR (and most games which use them) takedowns are optional button prompts that you can complete ignore. Get over yourselves, it's not a big deal in the slightest. For every internet moaner who doesn't like them there's probably thrice the amount within the silent majority who actually dig them.
Sometimes I'm glad mod tools for these games don't exist, just to spite people who make garbage like Thief 3: Minimalist Project which overboard in removing features, which are authored by ego maniac armchair "game designers" who think they know better than everyone else. The idea of eating fruit to replenish my health sounds appealing to me, but I'd like to retain the
completely optional third person mode... NOPE, wasn't in OldThief so it has to go! Less choice is not more, MORE choice is MORE!
While we're on this topic, in practice player-admin'ed servers for MP games are usually a bunch of trash. Ridiculous rule sets in place or awful map rotations are more often than not what you get. "24/7 rotation of Operation: Campfest with 64-players, 1000 ticket Conquest mode! Crouching only or get kicked!"

Do you know that your screed makes little to no sense when several people here have been saying that third-person takedowns should be *optional*? That mods are exactly about *choice*? And that there's no requirement to play on player-run servers with rules you don't like?

The "choice" of not installing the mod? Well no shit, that's not the point. For a number of "gameplay tweak" compilations it's often all or nothing when it particular features of said mods. Most modders that I've encountered are great people and will give their audience choice, but there's always bad eggs like the aforementioned Minimalist Project.

Come live in Oceania, you'll see how much choice you get of genuinely playable servers. Pretty much every FPS except for CS:GO, TF2 and (to a lesser extent) Battlefield is an awful experience due to size of the pub playerbases down here. Wanna play CoD on PC in Oceania? Better used to only ever playing Team Deathmatch on that one awful spamfest map. To get any other modes with healthy populations you'd have to buy a console version. Wanna play Battlefield? You'll only ever get to play Conquest mode. I love Rush mode, but the nearest Rush servers are based in South-East Asia with 200+ ping.
I loved Black Ops 2 precisely because it had 100% ranked dedicated servers with matchmaking + zero player admins. Just playing the game as the developer intended minus the bullshit of previous CoDs on PC. (Treyarch is the only CoD dev who gets it right on PC unfortunately. IW and Sledgehammer deliver 100% P2P-hosting + matchmaking which have rendered their games nigh unplayable in Oceania.)
