I can't seem to minimize Arx, so I have to quit to access my desktop. Is there a way to do this?

Use Alt-Tab to switch between applications.
If I remember correctly this'll even work if you've got no other app running during Arx, but, just to be safe: open a windows explorer prior to starting Arx...
