I've just uninstalled T3Ed and installed T3EnhancED (it really took long to compile schemas :) ). But I have a question: can I have both editors installed? Is there any possibility of messing things up? I'd like to work with both versions...
I've had three different versions all installed on the same partition. :) Didn't mess up a thing.

I've got both versions installed and working, too. Just use Dracflamloc's launcher to keep your registry straight and select which editor you want to use. :D (Be sure to verify that you're pointing to the right directory when you save or load, though. I accidently saved my UnenhanceD game in my EnhanceD folder the first time around! :p )

Hmm, the same problem ascottk had, but it went away. I'm at a loss as to what it might be since I'm not a programmer of any sort. I assembled the installer using Inno Setup, which pretty much guided me through it.
It may have something to do with the type of compression I used, but since it's working well for the majority. It's hard to say. We can try a little test though.
Try installing this version. I used a different compression technique. It's supposed to be less prone to errors. The only problem, is that the file is 90 megs larger.
Sorry for the troubles. Download this version and see how it works for you.
When you tried to reinstall the current installer, did you make sure that there were no left over T3EnhancED folders from the first install? If there were folders left on your system, remove them and then try again before downloading this version.
Hi,
I've tryed the other file and it does the same thing.
Do you think it would work if T3enhancED was just zipped? I would just have to place it in the right directory and unzip it.

Hmmm, if you're still having this problem it definately has to be an issue on your system. I used a completely different type of compression for the second file. I can't think of why special permissions would cause these issues, but it's possible. It might be a problem with your Ram for some reason. I used the highest level of compression in both cases and the installer does make use of a fair amount of ram to unzip. Make sure you don't have a large number of programs running in the background or something. You've got quite a few taskbar items.

I tried running the installation with nothing else running but it stopped again. It usually starts sending me messages with a .ogg file named "1204garrett" or something like that, maybe the first one of that kind in those that are being worked on by the installation.
Do you think it would word if the file was just zipped with something like Winrar or Winzip?
Edit: I tried again and the file wasn't the same (probably because it was the "123" edition this time):

I don't know what kind of issue this could be, but lately I formatted my laptop three times and each time I had the same problem. But as I wrote earlier, maybe we're just making it more complicated than it has to be. Maybe all I need are the files being zipped instead of being put in an .exe file.
Would that work?

Thought I'd give the new enhanced editor a go. You could say it was originally quite daunting, but when I came back in several months and found Komag did a tutorial, well... :thumb:
Anyway, I seem to be having problems with the two chests I've placed according to Komag's directions.
(Note: everything here on was done in the "Play Level Fullscreen + Sound" option)
When I frob them, I simply hear the locked sound; no "Lockpicking mode, activate!" or anything. I've properly added LockPickLeft to Garrett's inventory as per instructions, and have verified that he does in fact have them in-game. I thought it might try using the use key instead (with the lockpick selected) but that did nothing. After going to the game menu and looking at the inputs section, I was presented with an empty screen (don't know if that's normal or not, so I thought I'd also mention it).
EDIT: I got out my game manual and read that, by default, the left mouse button is for using selected items. Had no effect on chests (in fact, when I clicked the left mouse button, Garrett pulled out his dagger, thinking I wanted him to knife someone ;))
Also, like bukary, I'm petitioning you to tell us how to change some of the hud options. I actually like the new lightgem better than the old 2d one, and I enjoy the revolving gears too (I believe there was a tweak I had that made them disappear faster or some such.. foggy memory). It's fine to have your personal views on what is "better", but to deeply integrate that into an editor aimed at a wide audience is, in my opinion, poor taste. It's just more of a headache for those of us who enjoy some of the new HUD elements and have to bug you or someone else to help us patch/change it back. It would've made more sense to provide a separate smaller patch for that. [/2 cents]
Anywhere I should be looking for this problem? Just thought I'd post in this thread and later delete if someone tells me "Hey, go here, and use search next time!"
Cheers,
deadman.

Hey, go here, and use search next time!
(sorry, couldn't resist!)

Hmmm, walk me through what you did. The new system is manual, meaning you have to select the 'lockpicks' from inventory and hit the 'use' key. On my system, the 'use' key is my middle mouse button. I know the manual says that it is the Left mouse, but left mouse is for weapons by default, and you can't bind it to more than one function. The default 'use' key, is "I". Frobbing the chest or door, only lets you try it, to see if it's locked. I'm not sure why it didn't work when you hit the use key. What chests did you use? They should all work. Just make sure you don't have 'lockplate' set to false, that renders the lock 'unpickable'.

Definately shouldn't be blank.
Anyway, lets work through this part first.

I've tried to replicate the problems you're having, but I'm not able to. Everything should just be working right out of the box. I'll try a few more things to see what happens.

On that topic. :) The lightgem is still a 3D model, I just changed the casing to one of the buttons that normally appears on the loading screens. It looked close enough to the original. I would like to tell you in great detail how to put things back, but I didn't have the time to document half of the stuff I did. To be completely honest, I forget how I made a lot of the changes. Much of the work I did was very late at night, and I was lucky to get it done...let alone write down exactly how I did it. I'll try my best to backtrack what I did, but I'm pretty busy with other things now and I would like to put the two years of T3 tweaking behind me.

I sympathize, but that wasn't why I included the classic style light gem and hud. I included it because this is intended to be a 'classic' themed editing package. It was never intended for a wide audience. It was developed to cater to 'classic' Thief fans, who had desired a logical evolution of the look, feel and gameplay of the original Thief games. They didn't get that with TDS, and I hope this brings them closer to it.

Again, I do sympathize. I will try to help when I have time to sort through the steps you will need to do to put things back. To be honest, I may have removed some references from the actor browser when I was cleaning things up, so backtracking may be more trouble than I have time for at the moment. Considering I still have to complete the 'player' patch, so non FM makers can play an enhanced FM on their game install.
Also, I released this version of the editor 'as is'. I refer to it as
'what you see, is what you get' in the install notes. That isn't meant to be rude to those using the package, it simply means...I can not guarantee this mess will work. :laff: T3Ed was not the most fun to work on.
It probably seems rude, but I never aim to please everybody...by doing so, you generally end up pleasing nobody. ;)
