I agree but then again I hate pretty much all pop-stars in general and think they are annoying and no better than porn stars.
Your mistake is in implying that being a porn star is a bad thing.

Even though this isn't full on whore-behavior, we all know it's pointing in that direction and that's where she's going to end up.

Not to get ALL SERIOUS here, but here's why this disturbs me just a bit: My 7 year old niece practically worships Hanna Montana and all things Disney Channel. If you watch most of those "teen" shows, they tend to feature pre-pubescent kids who are obsessed with who's going out with who, who's in love with who, who kissed who, etc. Now that's fine if the shows were targeted for the age group where that stuff is a reality, but it's not. Most 13-14 year olds think Disney is retarded. It's younger kids - 6-10 year olds that watch it, and that's the demographic Disney targets with the merchandise.
Now that may not seem like a big deal to some people who (like me before I was a parent) think that a kid is a kid is a kid. There is a HUGE difference between a 10 year old and a 13 year old. A 10 year old boy generally hasn't noticed his dick yet, or the fact that girls don't have one. Most 9 year old girls aren't wearing bras and their primary contact with boys involves trying to keep them from farting on them. But since my niece started watching these shows, she's become obsessed with who's going to marry her, getting her cousins to kiss her, etc. There's some other stuff going on at home that contributes, but I'm just saying...:erg:
I'm (
http://drrobyn.wordpress.com/2008/06/05/disney-princesses-sexualizing-your-daughters-dr-robyn-responds/) not the only one who's noticed a subtle sexualization of kids, spearheaded lately by Disney. Go to a water park or the local pool and count how many little girls are wearing one piece bathing suits (you can usually do it on one hand). I'm a stay at home dad and the most common complaint I hear from moms with girls is that they can't find modest summer clothes, etc. One mom I know was freaking out because her daughter (who is 6) wanted to buy thong underwear at Wal-Mart (yes, you can). What designer out there comes up with the idea to make thong bikini's for girls who don't even have pubic hair down there yet? Isn't that a little "huh?" to anyone?
I don't think there's some BIG CONSPIRACY but stuff like the Hanna Montana/stripper pole thing is just another small chip in the brick. Most of her fans may not know what a stripper pole is (they will in the next few days if it stays in the news), but even look at the shorts she and the dancers are wearing in that video. Hey, if you're over 18 and wanna dress like that - I'm 100% in favor and please feel free to wear them in my front yard (some restrictions do apply). But do I really want to see a 5 year old wearing daisy dukes? And I guarantee you those are probably available in her size at your local Wal-Mart. Parents are dumb-asses for going there, but the question remains - whether it's on purpose, or simply negligence on Disney's part, WHY?
I've actually meant to start a thread about this very topic last week after returning from a water park and seeing a little girl without tits in a G-string.
Overreacting? Is my Christian past taking over my brain here? It just seems paedophalic to me in some subtle ways.

My wife watches Much Music all the time and before every single show there's a "not for younger audiences" disclaimer. EVERY SHOW. and they'r enot kidding. but nobody over the age of 16 watches much music anymore. basically... What fett said.
There is ONE show I've seen on TV lately that Follows along with this teen pop culture that I think is any good and its the reality show that follows Rev Rund's daughters around. They're modest girls who use their ambition to forward their careers rather than capitalizing on the "pre-teen sexual revolution" we're talking about here. And I'm happy about MTV's new 16 and preggo show, its worth a watch.
EDIT: pre-empting here: YES my wife older than 16!

Although I'm not a parent myself, I'd definitely agree with you 100% on the subtle and sometimes not-so-subtle sexualisation of preteens and the merchandising aimed at them. Since I'm not really familiar with Hannah Montana, I don't know what audience she's aimed at, but Bratz and the like sell to preteens. Obviously it's up to parents whether they buy these things, but producers and stores have their share of the responsibility in this process of sexualising very young kids (mainly girls, I'd think). And I think there's something hypocritical in a society or a market going, "Yeah, pedophiles, scum of the earth, ought to be strung up by their balls, now why don't you buy a G-string bikini for your 8-year old?"

Hah I think she is very clever. She already has the teen age girl age bracket wrapped around her finger, now she wants to branch out to the teenage boys, or ... and alot more will watch her if she continues on this road. Very clever.
Seriously, I wouldn't be commenting on abit of a sexy tame routine, but my two cousins, both under the age of 14, are huge fans of Hanah Montana and all the music, franchise, clothing line etc.. Miley is growing up but she is doing it in front of that age bracket even if she was dancing on some icecream cart even I thought it was a little over the top.

Gosh! She's just holding the pole for a minute or and THAT'S ALL?
I hoped for more but what you can ask from bigoted Fox channel. Too much ado for nothing. Actually the entire Teen Choice Awards is stupid so it's only appropriate.
While America will be all over Miley holding a pole, we Central Europeans have far better teen scandals :cheeky: :
Summary : A 14-years old has won miss bikini competition actually by putting the top away and getting more public votes. Another competing 17-years old did the same. The organizing company wasn't veryfiyng their age, because they didn't ask anybody to strip. But you know how it goes on some parties... Police is investigating, most likely the parents will be asked for responsibility.
