I meant spiders too (i was lazy OK)

high standards are awesome!
And on the spiders, I would've liked to see them more awesomely animated and with a better model, although we cannot make new animations :(
but it would've been even more scaretastic.

We can make new animations, it's just too fiddley for anyone to have enough patience...

So there's no easy exporting?

Basically you have to enter the rotation values for each frame explictly.
All we have is a fairly primitive motion editor that only supports humanoids, and a motion <-> text file converter.
Theoretically, someone might be able to write a converter for a common motion format, or a format saved by a common program.
Poser comes to mind; it's been given out for free with computer magazines quite often (presumably only old versions), and it's specifically designed for animating people, so it should theoretically be quite easy, and there are probably a lot of motions already available for it. No idea if they would use the same joint setup as the Thief AIs, though. I doubt it. And definitely not for spiders.

I'd suggest blender though, since it's widely available and free, and the animationtools keeps getting better all the time, and there's python for it for writing an exporter.

I just took a quick look at DAZ Studio, which has character animation and can save to some kind of plain-text file. I'm not sure about the viability of that, though.
Does Blender support skeletal animation?
AIs in Dark use simple keyframe-based skeletal animation, where each frame specifies the rotation values of each joint for that frame.

oh it does, and it has everything you would need for animating and building rigs for anything, all it needs is someone writing an exporter for it.
