Right, so me and a few of my buddys are starting work on a new Morrowind mod. Its going to be a complete map of Middle Earth, from J.R.R. Tolkens Lord of the Rings book series. We have been collecting maps and written descriptions of everything (including reading through and getting descriptions from the books) so that we can make it as close to the world J.R.R. Tolken created as possible. Any maps (or ideas) are quite welcome.
We are all pretty experienced in modding, but have only been working with the Morrowind construction set for about a week or so. Trying to get our foot in the door per say, and get use to how to use it.
This mod wont be coming out for over a year or so, but we thought we would give everyone a heads up (and just let our selves be known). We will need a bit more people to help out with it, but wont actualy be starting for quite a bit. But if you do want to help out eventualy, then let me know.
You can get ahold of me at ringo@gamegossip.com or bondjamesbond105@hotmail.com.
Anyways, thats about it.

Will you include the characters from the books as well?
More importantly, will there be Ents? :D

Will the story follow the Lord Of the Rings, or will it be a new saga, just in the same area?
Great idea, anyways. :thumb:

I think we'll be starting a new saga, but everything will be there. Rivendale, the shire, mordor, all the citys, rivers, lakes and ponds. Will be quite massive when its done (mayby even as big as the wolrd of Morrowind).

No one needs to be a psychic to know that this will never be...
Please, prove me wrong.

Well, if you plan on making the ENTIRE world of Tolkien - you either have a workforce that would make an Egyptian Pharo deadly envious - OR you're out of your mind!
So I'll side with Tyco if there's a bet coming...
But the idea is cool nonetheless... However just try making Rivendale, the Shire or Laketown for starters... Remember that every square meter has to be hand made - so the large wilderness areas would take FOREVER to make.

Well, we only have about three guys right now, but we all have alot of spare time, so that will help. :)
we will be starting with the shir for sure. Then we'll be working our way east and completing the misty mountains. Pretty sure its east (Im tired and cant think right now).
Yea, I admit that it will take a long time. My guess is mayby two years, probably longer. But if we ever can complete it (even a small bit of it) then it will be well worth the time.
Well be recruting modelers, people to help with sound, all that fun stuff after a few months. Mayby we can get some guys to help out.

It will take you a couple of years at least I think.
It would be the ultimate thing to pull off though.
Good luck.

Hummm... The only chance I think you have to design Middle Earth, is to pray Andargor finishes his World Generator Tool, while including there the possibility to generate a world based on a jpg or gif...
Otherwise it would be impossible.
Nevertheless, if you start it, don´t bother with a main quest at all, because that's the least important of things. Implement random quests (hundreds of them!), make all the NPC spawnable to make it a never ending game... and fine tune the game balance (for instance, make magic far less common).
