Microsoft announces Vista prices, specs (or, Wake up you dozy W******! pt. 2) - by oudeis

Getting out of the Linux-vs.-Windows debates and back on track...
Windows Vista Ultimate for 400 US$? What the FUCK is MS thinking? Even if an OEM copy runs at around 250 or less US$, that's still ridiculous.
I only have 1000 US$, and the new PC that I am going to use that money for must fulfill several hardware requirements:
-Dual-core CPU
-2 GB or more RAM
-mid-range DX10-compatible graphics card
-SATA hard drive with NCQ support
-SATA DVD drive
-BTX motherboard and case
-500W power supply with detachable cables
Trying to get a system with those things for just 1000 US$ is hard enough without having to buy an expensive OS. Guess I'd better save up some extra cash and refrain from splurging on all of those classic games and high-end HOTAS stuff on eBay to complement my savings...

It really depends on what Vista Ultimate offers. Besides Aeroglass, does Ultimate offer what you really need, or is it just high end stuff like server apps and other things you'll probably never use?
I'm sure home basic/premium will be a complete package for just about everyone. Course even $199-$239 is overly expensive, but I'm guessing only the hardest of the hardcore will have any need to spend 400 bucks for Ultimate.

I do not why the hell Vista needs so much disk space.
It surely doesn't have any additional programs except Media Player, Internet Explorer, Wordpad ...

It's probably gonna be stocked to the brim with drivers, getting started and Knowing Your System movies, and all that other miscellaneous crap MS likes to pack in their OS'es.

Who knows? Who cares? I can't even buy a disk drive with less than 160 gigs these days, so I can't say I give too much of a shit about a fifteen gig install size.
It's like you retards are building the HOT NEW gaming rig of 1996.

I don't understand why everyone always seems to have such a hissy panic attack over a new OS. It's an OS! Unless you're planning on actively developing on the platform why is this anything you would remotely care about unless you plan on buying a new computer around the time the new OS starts hitting the floor.
I mean... why does it matter? It's an operating system. It does what it does. By the time you mooglichs get around to upgrading your damn system you'll be buying something that can handle Vista just fine. And if you're buying or upgrading *just* to get the new OS than that's such a level of obsessive insani-geek crazy to me that the only response that comes to mind is a sound crotch-punch through the Internet.
WHY DO YOU PEOPLE GIVE SUCH A SHIT??
Bulgarian_Taffer on 12/9/2006 at 21:36
Because I'm pissed off when it gets to old hardware that won't be compatible with the new OS... I remember when I was desperately trying to get a sound card and a printer working with XP several years ago.

Why are you running Vista on such old hardware? What is wrong with XP or even 2K that you absolutely must upgrade the OS without upgrading the hardware?
