Well, seeing as I'm running the not-ready-for-prime-time version and it runs great, I'm not too worried.

Is there decent driver support for it now? I toyed with it back during Beta 1, and while the OS itself ran almost flawlessly, game performance really suffered.
I'm thinking about reinstalling it once I get my replacement HDD in, but I want to know if I'll be able to play HL2 and it's ilk at more than 20 FPS before I take the second plunge.

On the upside, now when I do a Microsoft playtest, instead of getting a Windows XP Pro I can eBay for $200, I can get a Vista Ultimate I can eBay for $400 :D

Ebay is not a verb!
Oudeis, your thread titles are annoying!

they weren't until a moderator bowdlerized them. 'muthaphuxor' is NOT so offensive as to requiring bleeping it out, as it were, and 'wanker' is harmless.
Scots Taffer on 12/9/2006 at 02:16
No, dude. They were annoying before the moderation. :p

* DirectX 9 compatible video card with 128MB of RAM
This is only necessary if you want to use Aero Glass, which you can turn off.
Call me crazy: but I think the higher video spec - at least - for Vista is actually a good thing. Vista "Premium Ready" PCs with integrated graphics will be required to be DX9 capable, at a minimum. No more shitty integrated graphics. So people will stop whining when their games don't work because they're too cheap to get a real video card. Games might run slow as hell, but at least they'll run. :p
That prediction is long out of date. Vista is at the
Beta 3 RC1 stage now. There's still a chance it could slip, but not by that much. I think MS will make the January deadline this time. Of course, whether the final version will be stable enough or not is a different story.
Ultimate edition is as expensive as fuck, though.
Seriously, MS should make at least the lower-end versions of Windows FREE. And reduce the prices on the remaining versions. That is, if they really still want people to use Windows.
SithLord2001 on 12/9/2006 at 03:52
From what I've read at other sites apparantly RC1 is actually extremely stable, has much better driver support, and will run most games and apps smoothly...
Oh wait, did I mention that's the x86 version? apparently the x64 versions still REALLY fucking blow. I'll Prolly try out RC1 x86 because I don't want to bother trying to actually fully use my AMD 64 processor if none of my shit will actually run on the x64 version. At this rate Microsoft will have a 10% working 64 version by the time it's suppossed to ship, oh well can't say I'm surprised.

It is in the twenty-first century! Or at least, eBay is!
