HELLO? HELLO, MCFLY!Msft has finally set down in writing the vital stats for Vista, to wit:
Windows Vista Business Edition - Upgrade: $199, New: $299
Windows Vista Home Basic Edition - Upgrade: $99, New: $199
Windows Vista Home Premium Edition - Upgrade: $159, New: $239
Windows Vista Ultimate Edition - Upgrade: $259, New: $399
* 1GHz CPU
* 1GB of RAM
* DirectX 9 compatible video card with 128MB of RAM
* * 40GB of hard drive space with 15GB additional free space
* DVD drive
Vista Ultimate edition is targeted towards gamers and multimedia afficionados. The plan is to have up to 5 million users test the last PR before it's pressed, with the release to OEMs coming in November and to the public in January, but the trade research firm Gartner thinks it won't come in any form until (

hell at that price for the ultimate edition I might consider buying a playstation 3. Seriously do they really think gamers have THAT much money?

40 Gig of HD space so I can have 3-D desktop alt-tabbing? Hrrrr.

You should know you are supposed to play on
X-BOX.
Those specs are pretty steep for many users, still... Are there many office puters with 128MB videocard? Even my 3000+ will barely catch breath.

I'm pretty sure this is one of those times when Bill Gates needs to suck my big fat dick.

Out of idle curiosity, how much do the comparative XP versions sell for?
Shug on 11/9/2006 at 13:47
I estimate most users of Win XP to have obtained a copy as per a prebuilt licence agreement, or alternatively off the back of a truck
Uncia: I could pick up a copy of Win XP Pro OEM for AU$219 (~US$165), and the home edition for AU$145 (~US$110)

I wonder how well games will run through windows vista if vista is hogging all those resources?
Maybe Microsoft should try and make windows more efficient instead of just bigger and fancier.

That horse bolted a long time ago

First off, I'm pretty sure those specs are for Aero, not basic-vista.
Second off, I can only assume that Aero turns itself off once any full-screen program is launched - if it didn't it would cause all games to run at a fraction of their full-speed, and Microsoft isn't quite THAT stupid (I hope) - besides, they have the whole claims about the new driver-interface thing increasing framerates by 40% or whatever - wouldn't be able to do that if Aero killed framerates.
It's so weird referring to myself as part of Windows >_>
