To all those who sincerely believe Michael Jackson was a paedophile, if you're a parent - or if you aren't, then make believe for a few minutes - contsider if your child had been abused by Michael Jackson... would you even consider a cash payout for your child's dignity, the loss of their innocence, and effectively pimp your child out to a star?
Or would you want to take the fucker to court?
Consider that, and the fact that every case settled out of court for an undisclosed sum in the millions.
Couldn't have put it better myself - both of your posts :) There are plenty of people who send out 'bad' signals. He wasn't one of them, at least as far as I'm concerned.
I'm sad - I remember when the Jackson 5 first started out. I thought he was magnificent though his music was not particularly to my taste and I was never tempted to see him live.

I don't think he was a paedophile, but I also hate the way everyone suddenly jumps on the "Oh he was just innocent and misunderstood" bandwagon just because he's dead, when a few months ago they'd probably have swore blind he was as bad as Gary Glitter.

I've been pounding that drum for years Scots, but then people start acting like I'm a pedophile because I'm defending the guy. Logically, it does not appear that he molested anyone. He was a sharp guy, not an idiot, and he was very open about his activities with kids - them sleeping in his room, his bed, etc. Why would he have been so open if he were trying to hide something in the first place? Even after the accusations, he continued to insist that nothing was wrong with kids sleeping over, and acted embarrassed that everyone thought something sexual was going on.
And yeah, the media is pretty nauseating. Even now, they keep using the word "accused" instead of "acquitted."

Would you allow your 12 yr old child to stay unaccompanied in a middle age mans bedroom in the first place?

Worse, Namdrol, I remember back when the shit was in the papers parents testifying that "they were sick at night with worry about their kid while they went to Neverland" - well
why the fuck would you let them if you weren't a gold-digging fuck? Also, funny how rich kids like Macauley Culkin and Corey Feldman never got abused...
I think you might have missed Namdrol's point here (though I might be wrong).
You say "These parents would not have taken the money instead of trying to get him into jail, I would not have done and any reasonable parent would not."
Namdrol then points out that if they were reasonable parents, their children wouldn't even be in that situation in the first place so why should they act "reasonably" when the BIG CASH PAYOUT comes along? That's aside from what I imagine would be the difficulty of turning down that much money as opposed to a difficult and likely traumatic (for the child) journey through the courts for an uncertain end. Of course they *could* all be money-hungry opportunists, in fact it wouldn't surprise me all that much, but I don't think your argument from incredulity holds much water.

Hey, at least they're using the word "accused," which is more than Iggles is granting him.
I agree with nicked, from the standpoint that there undoubtedly is some gray area here and writing off all accusations as being simply greed driven probably doesn't do the truth much justice. Having said that, back in 2003 I watched the
Living with Michael Jackson documentary in which it was revealed that he slept in the same bed as boys, and one thing that struck me was if there were anyone who could share a bed with a kid in an innocent manner, it's this guy.

Pedophile or not, no one will ever really know for sure, except the people that accused him in the first place. Aside from all that, he transcended cultural barriers with his style and music. He was the first black man to air videos on MTV, he broke that barrier. People looked at his talent, not his color. The guy had issues, no doubt about that, he gave us the best part of himself, his talent, and his music. His legacy will live on.

This.
I can't be the only one to think that his soft-spoken, shy, nature wasn't coyness or eccentricity, but rather a sad picture of an adult who was never allowed to be a kid, Unlike most people with horrific childhoods, he was never forced into the cruel world where he had to grow up fast, leaving him bitter and angry. He lived in a narcissistic bubble (as someone else mentioned) where he was allowed to keep acting like he was 7. As a result of this, he identified more with kids than adults, and felt entitled to all the things he missed as a kid, like theme parks, sleepovers, toys, and pets. It's not a far stretch for me to think that he was trying to show love to kids who, like him, never really got much parental affection. In my seven year old's mind, the coolest thing in the world is to have a friend or cousin spend the night, and get to sleep on the couch together. I honestly believe that's what was going on with MJ, especially because of how giggly and embarrassed he was that people read anything sexual into it. In fact, he reminds me exactly of my seven year old who covers his ears and closes his eyes every time someone kisses on TV.

a. Elton John is a fucking whore and should at least have redone Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.
b. I have no idea if there's a (

Nice one! I like it. :)
I don't know either way, I'll just listen to what my gut tells me. But I was growing up when he was. And I saw him change and grow as I was changing and growing. And I was a 'stepmother' to two black children for a while (and I know I've said it before) but if you see a small black child scrubbing himself with bleach because he wants to be white because of the endless name calling - then your heart can't help but go out to anyone who might do what Michael Jackson did to change his appearance. That doesn't make him a freak to me.
I had to look on Wikepedia about the various accusations as I find celebrity gossip dull in the extreme and didn't really know how, why or what. And I'm still at a loss. But regardless of that, as far as I understand it, he had the shit kicked out of him by his father if he didn't sing right. Is that correct? His life from the age of 5? was public - how can anyone have a 'normal' life/childhood under those circumstances.
I think he was foolish, naive maybe. But his legacy to the music world is surely undeniable.
