Didn't it hinge on what was a record? With EMI saying it was the physical thing and therefore they could do what they liked with digital recordings.
That's correct, that was at least part of EMI's arguments. Scots, I haven't seen a full transcript so I'm not sure what the final reasoning was yet.

"Hey everybody, the album leaked, and we wanted you to be able to hear it from us. We wanted to offer it as a free download but that didn't make sense to anyone but us"

"we're always one step behind him, he's Brian Eno"
hahaha i love it

Yeah the Brian Eno song is great. I like songs that are about actual people and on top of that it sounds kinda like something by The Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo. <3<3<3

The style is like a collision of vintage sounds. Juicy tape distortion, tape delay, springy reverb. The music evades simple categorisation. The "genre shifts" where they occur are pretty subtle. The approach reminds me a little of Mr. Bungle, but the genre shifts there are very abrupt. I would say Flash Delirium eases the listener through reasonably well as it doesn't appear to have lost anyone in the thread.

Verdict is still out until I hear more of what they have to offer
If you got a chance to listen to parts of the rest of the album, has your opinion changed much?
I was trying to listen but my younger child was demanding attention. I'd like to play the album through in its entirety but I only got past the first 5 tracks.

I wouldn't be surprised if that was the label's compromise on a free download given the album was leaked, as they'd at least bring in some royalties that way.

Christ, I finally got around to kicking in that video.
"Huh," I thought. "Kind of Wes Anderson-ish. Not that unusual."
Four minutes later my brain had collapsed upon itself and dribbled out my nostrils in multicolored splendor.
Also: "I Found a Whistle" is fucking unstoppable.
