Based on an undated interview on metro-game.com one developer said there will be dialogues with NPCs (with the always promised choices=>consequences stuff ), quests, weapon upgrades and training(?) and stealth-oriented weapons.
It's not hinting on a linear shooter, but you never know...
BTW, there are a bunch of (more or less old ) screenshots here : (

Grygorovich (the head of GSC) himself (
http://progames.mail.ru/press_conference/3/view) said that. Look for eighth answer. He might said that because he bore a grudge though. There is certain conflict between him and people who create Metro.

He's commenting on a competing studio's game, why should we take his words with a grain of salt?

Linear nonlinear. If it was as linear as, say, Bioshock, I wouldn't mind really.

i started to think it's vaporware but I knew it beforehand and saw some trailers, concept art. They've come a long way from their first engine presentation. and in the background there's some nerd rage going on about who stole what from the original stalker engine/concepts/ideas since the developers split up and apparently took some (or all) x-ray engine code with them. I don't care if I get another game thick with atmosphere and amazing locations. which this game could be.

Kotaku just ran a (
http://kotaku.com/5395318/russia-gets-a-whole-lot-bleaker-in-metro-2033) short preview on this.
The short of
the article is:
- the game is based on a novel by a Dmitry Glukhovsky;
-
minimal no HUD: you will be getting some feedback as to your character's condition and your ammo reserve, apparently, but it's all fully integrated in the game, and the concept of "heads-up-display", per se, is nowhere in sight;
- stealth is said to be a valid gameplay pathway, though so is run-and-gun;
- the game looks good in stereoscopic 3D;
- many "home-made" weapons in the game, with the few pre-holocaust ones being rare and valuable items, and ammo for these latter being used as a form of currency;
- NPCs are quite expressive;
- PC and X360 in 2010, may include PhysX support.
The journalist often mentions Fallout 3 as a comparison term, 'cause they're both post-nuke durrr, but somehow manages to only mention Stalker (which is, according to her, "also set in post-apocalyptic Russia") in passing, when pointing out where some of the devs come from.
Koki on 5/11/2009 at 06:16
Obviously, since there was no STALKER on 360.

stereoscopic 3D;
This word should be censored on the forums... to keep the weirdos out.
