* I see DLC as one of the worst things about the current gaming industry - a horrible economic model from a customer point of view, with developers spending time before release designing content specifically for later DLC and allowing marketing departments to finally have their say on the contents of the game ("no, not for release, we'll make it a DLC").
How is that different in kind from the expansion disks that were prevalent especially in the '90s?

I did a spit take when I read the system requirements. Look at some of the optimal requirements:- a Solid State Drive, 8GB RAM or more, video cards
which don't exist yet (GeForce GTX 480 and 470).
Hopefully the game has good optimisation and scales well. There is a 360 port, so I'd take that as a good omen.
Quote:
Minimum:
* Dual core CPU (any Core 2 Duo or better will do)
* DirectX 9, Shader Model 3 compliant graphics cards (GeForce 8800, GeForce GT220 and above)
* 1GB RAM
Recommended:
* Any Quad Core or 3.0+ GHz Dual Core CPU
* DirectX 10 compliant graphics card (GeForce GTX 260 and above)
* 2GB RAM
Optimum:
* Core i7 CPU
* NVIDIA DirectX 11 compliant graphics card (GeForce GTX 480 and 470)
* As much RAM as possible (8GB+)
* Fast HDD or SSD
Enabling 3D Vision
Metro 2033 utilizes NVIDIA 3D Vision with compatible cards and hardware. To play in 3D you will require:
* NVIDIA GeForce GTX 275 and above recommended
* A 120Hz (or above) monitor
* NVIDIA 3D Vision kit
* Microsoft Windows Vista or Windows 7

Ridiculous.

It's a game from the future!:cheeky:
EDIT: Anyway I'm curious if it'll be playable on my ancient PC. I got away with ArmA2 and Cryostasis and those didn't have a X360 version, so there's hope. :)

Now they are blatantly taking content out of the original game you still pay $50 for, selling items for $5-10, and even adding DLC salesmen in some games. Thank You Consoles and MMOs.

Made all the more silly by the rumours that the nVidia DX11 cards are actually more than a bit shit.

It'd pretty stupid if you put any stock into rumours, especially if they happen to come from the likes of Fudzilla who're total ATI fanboys. Don't be dense, wait until actual reviews with real world benchmarks.
RE: DLC. I love it how some people (PC elitists in particular) love to blanket generalise everything.

I know that you're specifically talking about Dragon Age. Do your homework properly, the Day One "Warden's Keep" pack was produced AFTER THE GAME WENT GOLD. After a game goes Gold, it's too late to work on content for the core game any more as discs need to pressed and the like. It gave the non-technical team members like artists and content creators who otherwise would've been sitting there twiddling their thumbs until the game's release (or until they've been assigned to a new project) something to do in the mean time.
I have no problems buying
single player content that's well made. Like the Fallout 3 DLCs, those were high quality, polished products that I consider money well spent. In the case of these, the non-existent right that long-time PC gamers imagine that they have to free extra stuff is utterly stupid.
Non-MMO multiplayer content is an entirely different kettle of fish though. Charging for map packs is wrong on principle, it does nothing but divide communities, limiting the number of people that you can play with.
Also
charging to unlock stuff that ships with the game on the disc (eg Street Fighter 4 alternative costumes, the Resident Evil 4 Vs. Multiplayer modes) and the equivalent of cheat codes (eg the DLC for the console versions of Dead Space, Godfather 1 & 2) is wrong as well.

Hey guys.
So I saw the video... watched it like 6 times over and over... this makes me so excited! Like back in the days of SOC!!!! Woohoo more underground anarchy! And snow!!! And flying demon things... I just want to walk up to them and kiss them! haha
Anyways so I hope its not just a steam version that comes out. Steam sucks in my country... eats up all my inet!
Any more facts you guys have on the game? I like reading what you guys say... better than any soap on tv!

Some (
http://scrawlfx.com/gallery/metro-2033/march-11-2010/) more new screenshots here. I'm seeing some stuff I was rather thinking and hoping wouldn't be in the game - HUD elements. Hopefully optional, though unless they find a way to give you some other visual indication of your ammo situation, that would entail some very particular features to gameplay and damage to allow you to handle reloading more realistically (as in when the clip's empty), so probably not.
Also, it looks like the setting has a good dose of paranormal in it, if this (
http://www.thq.com/uk/thqtv/index?movieId=3885) Ghost of the Metro trailer is any indication.

Actually, from what I've seen, I'm kinda meh on the mutants. They do indeed look more like Doom 3 demons than the ghoulish mutants of STALKER.

You do realize the game has quicktime events complete with PRESS X TO NOT DIE appearing on the screen right?
