Besides, the difference between 83 and 87 is twice as big as the difference between 3 and 5.
The thing is, I really believe you are this thick. 3 is average on a 1 to 5 scale. That's obvious to a child. Why on earth would I use a non-linear scale? Who cares what other people use?
The point is a 100 point scale, linear or not, is largely full of meaningless gradations. You're not going to decide not to get a game based on a 4 point difference on a 100 point scale are you? Well, you would but then, you know...

I predict that I won't give the slightest damn about the metacritic scores and will form my opinions on the game after playing it like everyone else who can form opinions independently.

4 points on a 100 point scale where basically every contributing score was done on a 4, 5, or 10 point scale.

You should care because it's the other people who review the video games, not you. And it's no more obvious (even to a child) that 3 should be an average score on a 1 - 5 scale than 50 should be an average score on a 1 - 100 scale. And for god knows why, (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metacritic#Metascores) many video game reviews seem to think average should be somewhere not obvious to a child.

Yes, you already said.
But whatever the appropriate number of gradations is [for an individual review], if you're going to do an average metascore (which may or may not be silly and futile, but whatever), then
you are going to need more significant figures not less, because averages do that.

All this talk of reviews makes me wish MatthewMatosis focused on new releases around the month they came out. I think Thief 4 is going to generate a lot of attention and discussion for the older games in the franchise.
As for me, I'm betting on a low 70. Maybe 72 or 73. Then again, deadly shadows had some serious issues and design that feels in the ball park of teef. I get the feeling that a low 80 might be where the game finds itself.

Yeah the metascore will obviously be percent but it's not one person making up a percent is it?
My God you people make me grumpy. Look what you do to me! Why can't you be as sensible as your last post all the time.
I need a break

That's not true at all.
Yes, they've got worse over the years with far to many OFFICIAL XBOX magazine type nonsense that is going to score every hyped big game highly. But you can't totally dismiss them. You may hate RPS (as many here seem to do) but they do pretty good job of aping the late 1990s PCGamerUK in that if they like something I'll usually find that I do too (if its in a genre I like with an idea I like).
I'm not championing RPS as such, but just saying that not all reviews are FoS and to say, and believe so, is tantamount to "all police are corrupt" type blanket silliness.
I mean particularly the massive review sights like IGN and Gamespot (not sure about metascore since they are pretty massive with steam), and even if it is something else that isn't EA's marketing department in disguise usually I don't take them too seriously at all unless they repeat something that is actually broken and awful, in which I research on to see if it's any true. I don't think I've bought a game solely from a review though usually it's just a mix of reputation and seeming like something I would like.

I don't think that's
our fault. The same comments that made you grumpy made me laugh. (Your response made me laugh more, not least because it's so
predictable nowadays.)

SE going the "you people" route, very classy.
This place is going to rock hard in like 2 weeks.
SubJeff on 6/2/2014 at 16:08
Really? His comment about 4 made you laugh?
Wow.
And you guys know who I mean. Not you and Pyrian, Brethren (although you do have some odd tentative alliance with frothcrew alpha).

Oh, and they lied about removing the XP system.
No, no, no, a thousand times no. They did not lie.
Do you get extra gold for getting a headshot? No. XP removed. You only get gold from looting. You use golds to acquire upgrades. Upgrades != XP system. They never claimed to remove the upgrade system, and if you'd thought they had, you should pay more attention instead of accusing them of "lying".
