70-80 i would say. Maybe higher - i am sure Square Enix got some "connections".

My money's on 70-80 as that seems to be what qualifies as "mediocre" these days.

Nonsense. The previews linked to in this forum, in a thread you've contributed to, have loads of bad things to say about it. Loads.
I had just finished reading (
http://www.destructoid.com/preview-the-first-four-hours-of-thief-269451.phtml) this article before coming to this thread.
Most of the bad previews I've seen were from a couple months back.

The previews were as negative as game previews can be these days, and were based on what is pretty much the final build, so all that criticism will come back in the reviews. I can't see this getting many 85+ scores, but I can see a couple 6/10, maybe even 5/10 from the harsher critics. I'm going with 65-75.

60-70.

It'll get at least an 85 no matter how it plays, just because it looks good.

Just out of curiosity: What's the average metascore that might indicate to a dev team that it might be food stamp time for them in the near future? Does the metascore tie into that or is it purely sales figures?
june gloom on 6/2/2014 at 01:14
Sales figures, depending on where they work. Many larger publishers like EA will sometimes disband a studio in the face of poor sales (or for no reason at all.) Indie developers, of course, need those sales to make ends meet.

I said 60-70, but you lot have made compelling reasons for me to expect higher.

If it's merely mediocre, then 75-85.
Thief's coming from a big studio, and most of the standard review sites won't go lower than 75 because of that. Not unless it's really truly irredeemably horrible, and then it'll only be around 70.
Which is kind of bullshit to be honest. Like you don't gauge on a 1-100 scale, it's more of like 70-100, anything lower being an unplayable mess.
Anyways you need to remember a lot of these critics most likely wont be Thief fans so it'll probably score pretty high, even if some people on here would consider it mediocre everything I hear about thief is pretty much the standard for games today.
