Other than the people who showed up on here to actually answer the 'Megadeth vs. Metallica' question, the only one who knows what they're talking about in Sgt_BFG and his terrifying picture.
Collective Soul is terrible. But of course, no one likes them enough to start a legitimate thread about them. Having said that, any discussion concerning them that DOES pop up would probably fit better in a 'Avril Lavigne vs. Christina Aguilera' type thread. As opposed to a 'Megadeth vs. Metallica' kinda thing, where we discuss actual musicians.
It is as I figured. Metallica rules, yet Lars is a fink. And, on the other end of things, Megadeth has their moments, and a pretty cool song or two, but ultimately Dave Mustaine's flowing, curly red hair scares everyone away before preference can set in.

If this is the standard for a "legitimate" thread, we are in deep fucking shit around here.

Is it too late to say neither?

What I find really odd is how metal bands can get bits of songs so right, and the rest of everything so wrong. I'm talking about stuff like the whole "I can't remember, I don't understand, Is it malice that makes you this way?" bit in No Life by Slipknot, or how so many bits (and only bits) of songs on Cleansing by Prong can be so good but the rest of it can be so, so bad.
It's like Helmet. Some of it is great, some of it is just dull dull dull. At least where albums change and you can say Album 2 (or 1) is better overall I can see it, but there are so many bands which fail because amongst gemlike bits there is rubbish. It's like these bands had 1 or 2 good tracks in them but somehow spread the goodness over a whole album, or 3.
I'm sure Stabbing Westward had at least 1 good track lost in Ungod somewhere.
