Something interesting I discovered today. I checked out the new albums by Bullet For My Valentine and Trivium.
They sound like 80's Metallica and Megadeth. Except with 10% of the songwriting skill. BFMV are fucking badass guitar players though.

Sir you just made my day.

bullet for my valetine are half the guitar players that the 80's bands were. I know because its probably one of the number one bands of which i have to teach to emo-ridden teenagers. Check out Avenged Sevenfold if you want to hear guitar playing (this is not an endorsement of them though).
And you know fett, I was just discussing this with a co-worker the other day, things seem to go in 20 or so year cycles. Or maybe its because of Guitar Hero.

Oh, they don't compare to the 80's guys, but they do give me some hope for that particular genre. I think Bullet is just metal enough that I find them listenable from time to time, though the emo vocals are pretty meh usually.
I agree - things almost always go in exact 20 year cycles. I see 20 year olds wearing Iron Maiden and Judas Priest t-shirts all the time now. The problem is that when a trend re-emerges, it's usually a sad carbon-copy of the original thing. So you've got bands that desperately want to sound like Metallica but just don't have the chops or the songwriting skills. Nevertheless, kids jump on it because it sounds new, and I'll even admit that people my age do to, because it's reminiscent of 'the good 'ol days'. It allows you to something new to listen to, and also helps you not to feel like such an old timer because you're into newer bands.

Man what's with these new acts trying to emulate old acts? Especially when the old acts like Maiden are still around.

Speaking as we were about Metallica and Megadeth, I came across this interesting little bootleg in my travels.

Metallica 1983-04-09 L'Amour-Brooklyn-New York-(USA)
Hello All,. I decided to put this show up because I have seen it in a few places incomplete, poor quality, and even mislabeled. This is my master tape,at the time my best friend Todd (who went to New York alot back then to Kiss conventions, record conventions and that sort of stuff)went to this show and decided to tape, when he got out of the trading thing in 1989 he gave me all of his masters.I know that I didn't have to put that up,but I decided to give a bit of history for all to understand that when I put up I do not know the exact recorder(Realistic-Radio Shack) he used everyone would understand. He did use the same mic that I had at the time(Realistic).
I also got up enough courage to finally going over some of MotorCity Sanitarium's master tapes(cassettes) and there are some interesting things there that I hope to get the time to put up.The Gov has Paul's Mini Disc masters and I have all the cassettes and were trying our best to put them out for all.
This was Dave's last show with Metallica, and I think the quality of this will be a major upgrade for most(from the one's I have heard).Personally to me,Cliff's bass is a bit strong in some places, but very enjoyable.
Those of you who visit other sites and wish to post this show on them, please feel free to do so,just make sure that credit is given for the taper... Thanks

holy shit, you have a link to download confirm/deny? (or is that legal on these boards to even ask? maybe PM is better)
That is a killer set list.
p.s. not to mention the historical importance of the show
