how so many bits (and only bits) of songs [...] by Prong can be so good but the rest of it can be so, so bad.
I Beg to Differ.

I'd be quite surprised if you knew that off the top of your head RBJ. Perhaps I shouldn't be so presumptuous.
But you didn't specify which specific part of my post you disagree with. Which Is it? Not all of it, surely. If so I'll have to Prove You Wrong.

No doubt that anyone who has ever heard 'Peace Sells' and 'Rust In Peace' albums never argue that Megadeth are the kings of thrash. And listen to 'United Abominations' CD, if you are still making up your mind.
And of course we should never forget Slayer, Anthrax, Testament, Exodus and lots of other great thrash metal bands out there.

Are you fucking kidding me? I don't make cultural references I couldn't get myself. I know more about NYHC than you could look up on Wikipedia, I grew up in that scene. I've had that album since it came out, and it's still sitting in a pile of tapes at my parents' house.
And all I disagree with is that only bits of Prong are good, because that first album is still fucking awesome.

Ah. I stand corrected. You've made a couple of comments on metal that made me think you didn't like it full stop. My flirtation with that type of music was down to a couple of guys I knew that kindly did the introductions. Sadly much of it never made it big in the UK and many people who I thought would or should have heard of Prong or Sick of it All hadn't. Biohazard, oddly imho, did make it over here though - and everyone I knew who liked them was either a front-runner to the "trendy" metallers we have now or was a total crusty "God knows I should love The Levellers and Ozric Tentacles bring down the government yah" type, and I don't personally rate them. I never heard the first Prong album though. My comment was specifically about Cleansing.
Back on my other tangent - Slayer are another band that just muck it up all the time when they clearly have the skills to make the most solid stuff. I mean how do you get from Silent Scream to Seasons in the Abyss?

My problem with *most* HC and metal bands is the vocalist. Slayer has skill but a terrible vocalist. Same thing for Anthrax and Exodus. That's at least one area where early Metallica stood out.
SubJeff on 5/3/2008 at 01:01
I agree somewhat but Slayer's vocalist suits the music well.

Anyone who says metal vocalists suck hasn't heard Aaron Turner or Michael Armine.
