Oh man, that part where Quiet is guiding the chopper back is heartbreaking. So is the part a couple missions previously where you have to kill all your infected soliders and you walk into the room in the basement and they all salute you. Some of the best story moments are right at the end of the game. I still have extreme versions of some missions to do but I think I'm pretty much done. Damn what a good game. GOTY 2015, easily.

You kinda get hints on that from the beginning of the game (face swap, "I am you, you're talking to yourself", the DNA thing etc.).
Also, it's a pity that with this stupid naked boobs outfit and sex toy behavior, Kojima successfully prevented Quiet from becoming one of the greatest female characters since The Boss. Sure, it's nothing in comparison to the sick shit he did in MGS4 with B&B squad, but it's still a pity.

Re: the game's story: I think that a lot of the specific criticism is misguided, in that people seem to ask for realism in a MGS game, but I'd still say that the story is flawed in ways that the earlier games weren't. Its individual bits don't fit together particularly well: the parasites, the child soldiers, Eli and Sahelanthropus. By comparison, MGS2 tells a weird story that may be too pomo for its own good, but it knows what it wants to do and in that respect is surprisingly coherent, though the individual parts only fall into place at the very end. MGS3 has strong characters and a fairly clear red thread in the relationship between Snake and Big Boss and how this relates to the game's themes. I don't remember MGS4 all that well, but IIRC it's all about old age, obsolescence and Solid Snake's swan song. MGS5, though? Individual moments are strong, but even with a lot of goodwill it has too little focus to come together even in that camp, operatic, anime, postmodern Kojima way.

Always nice when people put game ending ruining spoilers without putting them in spoiler tags.
As someone who is only 10% into the game and then read your post and had the ending ruined for me, I just wanted to say thank you.

And thank you for selecting the choicest bit out of that and quoting it without a spoiler tag for easy reference, icemann. Great job, etc. I kiss you!

Fixed. Unlike Judith's post.

It was just a response to Henke's post. These are the things you see in the beginning, and if you don't know what it's really about (and you don't know until the very end), there's nothing ruined for you. Unless, you read other spoiler tags here, but that's your own fault then. I put it in spoiler tags JIC, to prevent further drama

But drama is what we live for. That's what Metal Gear is about! Judith!? JUUUDIIIIITH!!!

Good one ;) Lately I've been avoiding the large-scale open-world drama, focusing more on little dramas of a quiet American town, where Life is Strange :)
