Ok, any opinions?
(
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7082281.stm) provides some background on the subject.
Basically - British female student in Perugia on an Erasmus exchange program was found with her throat cut (by a pen knife or glass), and indications she had 'engaged in sexual activity' before her death.
Her three flatmates (a girl, Amanda Knox, her boyfriend, and a Congolese have been arrested, and apparently Amanda Knox has 'crumbled under questioning', with vague suggestions that her (black) Congolese flatmate is responsible.
The British tabloids have been all over it, searching the suspects' MySpace pages (even using pictures of them dressed in Halloween/superficial horror fancy dress, suggesting they inhabit a 'sick' world.
My view is that a. the Daily Mail is bollocks; b. The Congolese guy is innocent (he has been an immigrant since '88; owns a local bar; has a kid), and Amanda and beau are entirely responsible.
Any thoughs? I don't want this to be facetious - it just seems to be a really post-Madeline McCann event, with the media basically tearing those involved (in any way) apart.

So, I guess this is a big story over there. Anyway, I say OJ did it.

Ok, I see why CommChat is dead - every damn thread gets derailed. And, unlike in 2004 (c.f. Scots Taffer's post in CommChat is Dead), the derail does not laughmaketh. ;)

Dad says: my little angel? Have sex? NEVER
that's about as credible as the american bird saying she was "horribly confused" and "doesn't remember anything after that"
presumably they'll be able to find out if the bloke was involved thanks to DNA

Totally calling the "Congolian Frame-Up" angle, too.
Plus I like to say "Congolian" instead of "Congolese" and wanted to do so here.
But yeah, even with this miserable amount of filtered background info, my immediate instinct is that if Mr Lumumba is involved at all (which I don't see much reason to believe at this point) then he is being played for a patsy by the other two.

My point is that, in my opinion, this is yet another run of the mill murder case that nobody's going to give a hoot about in a couple of weeks. I'm sorry that the point I made wasn't clear to you.
(edit) I don't mean to be an asshole. You asked for an opinion, and I duly offered mine, not meaning any personal offense.

Ko0k - Yeah, I got your point - I was just ragging on your OJ joke, which is like, what - over a decade out of date?
GBM - Congolia I dig. I always get a feeling that more backwards nations would benefit from a more Jetsonesque nomenclature. But seriously - if you can't blame the black man, who can you blame? Atticus is defintiely not in the building...

Get your head out of your ass. He's been in the spotlight recently.
Dude, what the fuck. I did what I normally do to a worthless thread. Stop your whining.
(edit) In hindsight, calling your thread worthless is uncalled for, although I stand by my assertion that all I did was express my attitude toward the subject itself. It's unfortunate that you decided to take it personally.
