the Load Game screen causes Thief2 to crash! QuickLoading while in game causes crashes as well.
when I start T2 I can click on New Game, but then the menu buttons in the Start/Option/Cancel area don't highlight correctly (they seem to have shadows of the surrounding background) and the dividing bars are missing. Load Game instantly crashes to desktop.
I've never had this problem before, I haven't changed anything except playing FMs as usual. I tried running the original T2 through Darkloader to clear any weird settings, but the problem continues.

Did you update your graphics card's drivers?
I know that happened to me with ATI drivers.

I've just got a new laptop all set up, DDfix , admin, xp compatibility etc and I've been having something similar happen, it occasionally switches me to the desktop when I save/load, but I can alt/tab back.

perhaps... :tsktsk: I do have an ATI card, what version do I need to have to run Thief properly?
(searching for "ATI driver thief" gives too many results to know what to do)

I had success with 9.6 and 9.8 revisions of the Catalyst Drivers.
Any others were screwy. Don't forget to use (
http://phyxion.net/Driver-Sweeper/200/View-category) DriverSweeper to clear the remnants of your current drivers first.
It also depends on what card you're using as well. I was using a 4830, I'm not sure about the new 5xxxx series.

I've got an ATI 2400 HD pro, running version 8.650.0.0
I used to know what card numbers meant, but none of it seems to make any sense now. can I just use the Roll Back Driver option in Device Manager?

Hmm, assuming that you did not install the latest graphics card driver updates from ATI or your computer manufacturer, you have me stumped.

I believe I did install new ones in order to run a demo of something and forgot, hence the nervous "perhaps." we need a forehead-smack smiley.
I rolled them back to 8.420.0.0 from 2007 (apparently the last version I installed) and that fixed the problem.
thanks, bob!
