I realise this is probably a stupid question, but out of curiosity, would it be possible to modify the SS2 melee weapons to allow you to block the swings of pipe hybrids? You can block other enemies attacks in Thief 1 and 2 with your sword in Thief, so I was wondering if it'd be possible to do the same, seeing how the hybrids' pipes can block your swings.
Cheers,

I don't know, but I remember reading in an interview a while back that the blocking code had been carried over into SS2 in an early stage, and the monkeys would block your pipe swings with insible swords.

I don't think it's possible.

That was mentioned in the back of the manual.

Me neither, I have never blocked any melee attacks during all my melee-only runthroughs.

I bunged the 'block' motions back into the ss2 mdb once. The block motion archetype isn't in SS2 so it was always unlikely to work properly. They'd play if called in a conversation or through motedit so they were 'working', but I could never get them to actually block attacks.

Of course not, you never pressed the block key (because SS2 doesn't have one). ;)

That is a pretty good reason why I haven't seen it in action then. :p

Judging from the Shodan immunity to melee weapons, melee attacks do their own class of damage, just like lasers, standard rounds, etc.? ( Or does this only apply to the player? )
Anywho, would there be a way to set up a brief, invisible psi shield that only blocked melee damage and was only present as long as the block animation was being used? Or would making something that specific not be worth the time it would take compared to its use?

Its always worth the time....the question is who's time is it worth?
