Mechanist characters. - by massimilianogoi

Hy, I search for some artist that re-design the mechanists for Thief - Deadly Shadows.
I mean of AI characters. In Thief - Deadly Shadows the AI maps are different from Thief - The Metal Age: in the first one, the maps are subdivided in two parts: face and the rest of the body (two different maps skins aingle AI), the last merge everything in a squared map.
What I search is someone, well skilled to drawing (I refer particularly to the artists that exposed on thief-thecircle.com their drawing works) that re-design the mechanist faces and wearing in a stile more as possible similar to Thief - Deadly Shadows (particularly the black-skinned characters):

1-) correcting and/or adding somatic lines;
2-) adding to the face the skin-effect, as the one in the hammerite map;
3-) adding to the green parts of the uniform the cloth-effects, as the one in the hammerite map;
4-) splitting the drawings of the uniform in two parts: the upper, and the lower, as the one in the hammerite map.
I hope to be well expressed :)
Here is the maps package: (

No, I'm not skilled in design, but I believe you can modify in some way the existing mechanist textures.

Yep!! And somethind like improving the existing mechanist textures with some characters.
For example, the "textile fabric effect" like this:

http://img126.imageshack.us/img126/9561/detailfh1.gifwith the difference that the cloth should be green, assuming that the mechanists wears green cloth dressing and some yellow metal furnishing (a kind of weird armor).
More: if you enlarge the Thief 2 textures of the package, you can see that they hasn't the same detail level of the ones of Thief 3, so it should be good some details improving.

No. I take this opportunity to expand on the subject-matter:
The mechanist soldiers (or guards?) wears some kind of neckwear that the hammerites havent, see the pics below:
It seems also they're wearing some kind of epaulets, that augments their shoulders, maybe for protection... or maybe for a simple error of designing the model, but I think it should be fine to keep also this :)

Have you tried simply to color the TDS hammer skins, to get a first impression? Something like this:

The next question would be if you'd rather start with the high-res textures made by JohnP*. Unfortunately I have barely talent to get some wall textures working, but I think without high-res ones this would be a waste of time and work.
*Have I missed some announcement or why is his homepage down?

These definitely are not the currect color. More: I am not an artist of drawing, so I leave these workes to those who are well skilled. I am a programmer, and a bit 3D designer, and there's a big difference between 3DSMax and a paint canvas :).

These textures are available also separately??? Because I downloaded them and installed, and it seems that they are functionally only in the ibt maps, no textures to manipulate. :erg:

I don't think beleg was trying to get the color exactly right, he was just trying to show you that it is very easy to change the color. That's essentially all that needs to be done really, you can't use the original Thief 2 files as they won't match up with the models in TDS.

John's installer is actually a self extracting archive, you can unpack its contents to desired folder and browse through it.
Btw. I wouldn't count on anyone will just do it for you. Learn a bit more about image/texture editing, working with layers, etc. It's not that hard ;)

You should find the JohnP textures in your game's Dynamically-Loaded-folder (at least when the game is running). From there you can copy them to your Thief3Edit setup.
Oh, and the fabric colour is quite correct. :D But again we suffer from the little attention this whole thing gets. :erg:

Yup, I thought the fabric color looked fine actually. It's right on to be honest. Not sure why he/she would say it's wrong.

A countersigning denotation of the Mechanists is GOLD. Gold were on their armours, and gold where in their undercoat. And here I see no gold. That's why I say that's wrong.
And the azure shoud be more dark.
