The world will be a better place when organized religion stops...nuff said

If only the pope would make the same sort of empirical statements about baby rape, he might actually do some good in Africa.

John Lennon was just a different POPe.

The vatican actually toook a firm position on child rape recently: (
http://www.cbc.ca/world/story/2009/03/07/catholic-abortion.html) repeatedly raping your stepdaughter is not worthy of excommunication, but aborting the 9 yearold's resulting pregnancy that would have killed her certainly is, for everyone involved.

John Lennon was a BETTER Pope.
WTF a celibate (yeah right) clergy telling people in the real world how to behave based on today's self serving interpretation of the morals of fables written thousands of years ago in an anthology edited by equally distant and irrelevant gang of political patriarchs.
"God told us to tell you..."
Well God told me to tell you to go ahead and fuck off, Papa. And I have the scripture to prove it.
Rly.

Sorry, but John Lennon can fuck right off with the Pope
Really man? I love the guy, but I'm not one of those retarded fan boys (like the Gallaghers) who is going to start a flame war over it. But please do explain your rather odd stance on the man, the hero, the legend.

Thank you, Starrfall. :thumb:
I was just about to start a 'fuck the pope (there's no way I'm wasting caps on this motherfucker) with a cheese grater'-type thread, but luckily I didn't have to.
I'm glad I'm not the only one whose mind boggles.
...
FUCK THE POPE WITH A CHEESE GRATER WRAPPED AROUND FUCKING CAPE HORN OR SOMETHING

Haha, I'll give it a go as you asked so nicely :)
That song irks me for a start. No religion, good idea.
No countries? Bad idea. No buxom German ladies in Lederhosen? No drunken Irishmen lilting down the street? (no offense). No crazy Danes, Finns, or Frenchmen on bicycles? Where's the fun in that? I'm sure it's not literally meant in the sense that he wanted to erase all culture, but it doesn't sit well in my mind.
No possessions? Not a workable idea, pretty incompatible with human nature.
The whole, "Peace, man", is a noble but flawed philosophy on life. And I get fed up of it being in my face as thought it's a big hat of one size that will fit perfectly at a bargain basement price! So, the Dude may well abide, but only in the Big Lebowski.
I also find Yoko very annoying, for no reason other than
I Just Do.
Ironically, I have been to Strawberry Fields in Central Park, but I more stumbled over it by coincidence than anything else.

Lennon was cool for a cultural revolution, not political.
I recently got around to reading End of Poverty by Jeff Sachs, and I recommend anybody that cares about the developing world and poverty, etc, read it.
I like it because that's the plan. It doesn't matter who says what, how "important" they are, or why they say it. If you at all care about solving the problem, that's the plan. And sooner or later the basics of it have to be done. If people want to wank off in some other direction like this, or the dogged attachment countries have to agriculture subsidies, whatever it is ... to me it's just a big detour of wasted breath.
You don't even have to bother arguing with them IMO. They're either on board with the right thing or not. That's the only relevant question: are you on board or not? (Though you might have to negotiate or play hardball with them if they're going to be dicks and use their power to muck things up ... that's just politics. As long as you understand what's the right thing to do and why).
