hi
i was wondering whether anyone knows how big of a map you can create in a single map without anyone level loading tansitions. i know you would probably need a monster pc to run it and it would a long time to load but still.
thanks

If memory serves me correctly, I believe the maximum ranges for the editor are 500k UUs. That was for Ravenshield, which used a base of 32uu : 1', but did not use load zones. The game, Postal2 is also built on the UT03 engine. Despite using load zones, it did have some decent sized areas filled with things to do.
Your best bet, is to open the editors for other UT03 based games and look at their map sizes and work from there. Your main problem with building a huge map, is filling it with stuff to keep the player's interest and ensuring portals/anti-portals are used properly to keep it optimized.

The way I found out is- if t3 crashes you know it's too big/complex :)

There's also a hard limit on the number of properties that can be on a map and it's objects. There was a thread in which I explained this during editor beta testing, I suggest you go read it, I'm unlikely to do a better job with an explanation now.

It must be pretty big because you can make one big enough to fit a whole city in!

I find that any unr file over 7mb will crash t3 on play. So it looks like 7mb of map may be the limit, I also notice the unr files of the official t3 maps are all just under 7mb so I guess thats the size limit.

If it's true, then the biggest map that can be created with TDS Editor is just about as small as official maps in TDS, or what?
