It's always been the hair that I've found most appalling in any ME game, and this looks like it carries on that proud tradition.

I've only played ME1, but I don't remember anything in that looking this fake and cartoony.
I guess that fits the uncanny valley idea; in a number of ways, the
ME:A graphics are obviously closer to 'real', which means that the shortcomings are all the more striking and, well, uncanny.

Maybe I'm contradicting myself, because if it's fake and cartoony, it really wouldn't be considered to be "almost human." All I know is that the characters in that one video in particular just look off, and very strange. In some ways, the girl/woman reminds me of Elizabeth from Bioshock Infinite, which I'm guessing isn't the look they're going for.

I'd rather not judge the game based on videos and memes specifically showcasing its worst parts. RPS has a decent early impression (
https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2017/03/16/mass-effect-andromeda-problems/) writeup, though of course it's subjective. Anyway, the thing which nobody talks about is that the game doesn't have a quicksave feature. Sounds far more annoying than the occasional uncanny valley.

Well, yeah. That W3 model doesn't even
have a hair texture in her eyebrows, for example. The ME:A model looks almost like somebody took a real face and then photoshopped in the hair and eyes. The facial texture is fantastic, which is precisely what sets it at odds from the rest of the shot. The W3 shot has consistent stylization, but is obviously cartoony.
