Raycevick just dropped a fabulous doco/critical analysis on ME1. He'll cover ME 2 & 3 leading up to Andromeda's release.

Good video. Quite long, but a detailed analysis.

There's no thread for ME: Andromeda yet, but at the current state I'm barely interested in that one. What the hell happened in the last 5 years?

Of all the places in the Andromeda Galaxy, they chose Uncanny Valley?

Apparently it follows the DA:I model:

When the Doctors left, I didn't really think of it as a big deal but it looks like the studio has completely gone in the crapper since then. It's a shame, because I would really enjoy a good Mass Effect game in the style of old Bioware.

I find it hard to believe EA is so strapped for cash they resorted to Microsoft Anna in lieu of voice actors. Also, is there an in-universe explanation for why everyone has botox faces?

Yeah, I'm going to wait and see how much the DA:I MMO model's gunked up the works. For all its faults, DA:I's main missions were actually pretty nice, and the character modelling and facial animation was quite polished. Bioware had issues the first time around they worked with a new engine (ME1), but generally do better with subsequent entries. I suppose the ME:A team didn't share much talent with the DA:I team in terms of character art and engine work; those magically appearing NPCs also happen in DA:I sometimes if you're out of RAM.
As for the botox faces -- didja guys forget that Anderson's face looked like it was made out of pudding in ME1? Human faces have always been a problem with ME.

Yeah, but ME:A looks like it used Shrek as a template for facial animations. I find it surprisingly hard to ignore. Apparently ME 1-3 faces bothered me much less. Maybe it is the uncanny valley effect.

Yeah, watching those videos was a bit creepy. I had to look up "Uncanny Valley," but it sure seems to apply here. I've only played ME1, but I don't remember anything in that looking this fake and cartoony.
