I would, but I don't have a webcam.

Better yet, I want to see Lhet handle himself in a real fight.

.......You didn't read what I said. I said it was easy to learn, but to get the power and to make it effective you have to spend a lot of time practicing and sparring and stuff.
SubJeff on 3/3/2006 at 00:31
Yeah, we read it. It's still a crock.

You guys just made my night! :D
Don't kid me on the Muay Thai, it isn't a week long thing. Period.
Your tekken friend is A-grade too: I played games from Killer instinct to Dead or alive 3. My fighting style is a mixture of countless games. I r teh m4ster.
Lhet on 3/3/2006 at 02:02
I never said it was a week long thing. Just that you could 'learn' it in a week. I think my definition of learn is different than all of yours.
I just mean be able to identify and do at least a half assed version of the moves.
I don't like to fight. All I have is a bit of defense and dodging. Not much offense.
Of course if anybody does the classic 2 handed grab from the front, they are a moron and I can deal with that.
Also, an axe kick isn't really a muay thai thing.
Shug on 3/3/2006 at 03:52
Oh well, I must bow to your superior knowledge once again.
I believe the problem here is you are confusing the recognition of moves with "learning" them. Identifying isn't the same as executing - the entire point is it takes a long time to perform the moves properly, and that's how one becomes a good thai boxer.
It's easy to "learn" about passing, kicking and lineout throwing in rugby - a lot harder to torpedo a ball 60m and have it find touch on the bounce. Seeing isn't learning, Splinter

Watch out, Shug... Lhet's been playing Mortal Kombat and I hear he's got the Scorpion move down after a couple of hours of controller bashing.
GET OVER HERE!
p.s. I had an image like Neo plugged into the Matrix of some kid playing Tekken for hours then turning around and saying: I know Kung Fu.

If you learn how to block, how to put your hand where it should go, and learn how to kick and spin around and check, then learn the three different stances, then learn some other stuff, I call that learning. You basically know it. That doesn't mean you can go and even handle going out and kicking logs, or kneeing somebody in the face, just you know what the techniques are. You're learned it, but you may or may not have a clue as to what to do with it or how to apply anything at all. Personally, I only use one muay thai style block, I can't do any others fast enough to be effective. When I spar and stuff, I don't use muay thai because I don't have it down.
Also, I never said anything about mortal kombat, but if you look at tekken, those are almost all real moves. You can't say there aren't people who fight without any style. There are plenty of people who don't use Kung Fu or Kickboxing or even traditional boxing, they just fight and block and may or may not win. Also, if you look at a good fighter, you can usually see that most if not all the moves they use can be found somewhere in tekken.
I never claimed to be any sort of professional martial artist, but when you so boldly accuse me of not knowing something which you don't know yourself, that's stupid.
