2004 MN4 AKA Apophis has long since been shown to not have any chance of impacting the Earth at that date. Sometime in the distant future, perhaps (it's orbit brings it by ours on a regular basis), but not 2029.

Actually there is.
Your suppositions and conclusions are unreasonable and not supported by any logic. Thus they fail.
Monkeysee has told you why they are unreasonable. Just because it's so simple of a case to make that it can be done in two sentences doesn't mean it's any less true.
So if you're going to stubbornly bring up this idea, without truly acknowledging the valid criticisms thereof, you're offering less to us than crude jokes about jism.
That's not tacky, that's just da troof.
K look, I don't want to have this back and forth nonsense anymore so lets just agree to disagree. I'm not going to weed through all my old posts to show you that they actually have valid premises....what good would it do? You've already decided not to be receptive. I can't stand when people get into this pissing contest mode where they have to go out of their way to shoot somebody down. Face it, you don't know the future any better than I do. But if you want to be a snob, go for it, I'm done. Learn to be a bit less closed minded in the future...it'll go a long way.

Man that is a magnificent fucking backflip right there, don't try and say "come on guys we can all be right" just when it becomes blatently obvious that your backed into a corner.
I personally think that we should spend less fucking time and money on space technology (and failing embarrasingly far too often), and maybe concentrate on some mamoth problems that are happening right fucking here and now. America least of all, considering the bills your ringing up over in Iraq.
EDIT:It just struck me someone's probably going to whine about me not stating any issues that deserve more money than Space-Jizz on mars. Whether or not you "believe" in global warming, there are a ton of environmental issues, from land salination, to animal extinction. Not to mention other boring problems, like AIDS, famine, and the sort...

I'm not saying colonizing mars is impossible but it would be very difficult and expensive. We would have to carry everything when leaving earth. ie water!
This is going to take alot more than Rocketman knows.
If we could change the martian conditions to be more like earth. But:
You would have to creat a high output yet low input energy system to alter the martian atmosphere.
You would need platinum or titanium to build structures to live there or tunnel out a living area and live under ground and to keep temperature constand and pressurized.
Grow own food, create new medicine..no telling what you migh catch up there.
Creat fast strong transport vehicles that can handle the terrain of mars..like hi tech dune buggies.
Create better space shuttles on earth
Build a space launch pad on the moon. maybe a space station along the way.
And also. Strong but light space suits..like those on that film dark horizons.
NOW START.
*Obviously I didn't have much luck at the school function and its Back to mars on a friday nite.

population can diffuse a little
So, you're proposing that we colonise
Mars because of overpopulation?
Want to hear of a brilliant suggestion that will cost far fewer resources, and would half the population of the Earth in the next 50 years?
A global 1-child policy.
It also happens to be much more practical, too.
Alternatively, we could always try wide-scale retroactive abortions.
Nominating Rocket Man as a candidate.

Ahh, Apophis. I was trying to remember the name but couldn't think of it. Thanks for that.
I don't know if it's mentioned in the article above, but I've heard it could swing around and potentially hit us again in 2039. Not that that's much to fret over. The chances of it hitting us then are even smaller, and even now we have the technology to push it away if it were to ever be a confirmed hit.
