Not a scam itself, but I think it's very irritating - lowering the volume of normal TV broadcasts, with the exception to advertisements - so the advertisements are way louder than normal broadcasts.
It's actually adverts using absurd compression to make sure that EVERYTHING IN THE ADVERT IS AS LOUD AS POSSIBLE. Some moments of TV programs may be that loud, but not consistently and not compressed so that the quietest sound is as loud as the loudest.

Storage media manufacturers measuring 1MB at 1000KB.
They are actually correct. Annoying as it is, a Megabyte is 1000KB, a Mebibyte is 1024KB

It's only a relatively recent development (1998-ish) as 'Megabyte' referred to both 1000KB and 1024KB and it got confusing.
Various industry bodies said "we're sorting your shit out" and gave Megabyte (and Kilobyte, Gigabyte etc) etc the 1000s in keeping with the standard SI prefixes and created Kibibyte, Mebibyte and Gibibyte etc for the 1024s.
