I could live with this as long as Shalebridge isn't part of Old Quarter and all that. Although there is no need to split Shalebridge across the rver - I'll just forget about the servant's conversation (probably made too much of it in the first place).
I was just reading through the DS book files, and it says the Shalebridge Cradle is in The Old Quarter. I simply believe that Shalebridge is just that a bridge.
In your artwork str8g8 you show a bridge with houses on it, maybe Shalebridge is a thick bridge now occupied with houses.

Well, could be that Shalebridge as a district isn't official, only the neighbourhood around it is called *Shalebridge" by the thieves and peasants.
Remember that Garrett said he had an acquaintance in SB he'd crash at after escaping the Ambush!: And in T3 the fence he wants to visit while fleeing the Keeper Enforcers is also near the bridge? Perhaps this is the same feller?
Anyways, the only other reference to Shalebridge what I remember, is the Mechanist guestbook, and it said;

Bandly Rofthoffer -- Declined (on holiday in Shalebridge)
What if this was informed by said noblemans contacts (as what I am to suggest would not fit to Mechanists vocabulary)?
Now let's consider Ramirez' threads to deNavan, the commissioner;

May I remind you, as well, of your predecessor's unfortunate end? The rivers are so treacherous this time of year.
Conclusions?: The poor chap lies in the bottom of the River, just under Shalebridge. I'm predicting a good fan-mission story here.
Anyways, hope these can sway our thoughts to a more singular conlusion.

It's funny you should mention that ;) I'm doing an FM based on that premise for the Shale Bridge ... There are examples of medieval bridges that do this, such as Point Neuf in Paris, Ponte Veccio in Florence (apologies for spelling) and the old London Bridge which burned down in the Great Fire I think...

That was sort of what I intended to show on my last map. Doc_Brown didn't like the idea of splitting a district, but if the the Bridge that connects them is itself part of the district then it's not split after all!
Well, I'm quite happy about these ideas :thumb:

I was thinking more on the lines of not having a district at all in the official map.
It's the neighbourhood that's called inofficially Shalebridge because the vicinity of the bridge, but in the City charters there's only OQ and Dayport, with the bridge named Shalebridge.
Oh well. Glad we found a way. :cheeky:

I don't know if we're taking TDS into account, with the different designers n all, but when Inspecter Drept says about the Hag "She finds her prey now in Auldale, but twas in Shalebridge where her murders didst begin," the map moves down and an area around the bridge is labelled Shalebridge.
Taking this into account, it doesn't seem as though Shalebridge is only the bridge, as it has the Shalebridge Cradle in it. Unless the Cradle is only named after Shalebridge, perhaps because it's close or something.
It seems as though Shalebridge is a minor district below Old Quarter, but I can see it having a bridge as well.

http://whitecortex.net/~mikko/thief/cradle.jpgYou mean this? Yes, well it only addresses the Cradle, not any districts. And yes, I think it was after the bridge the Cradle was named, as it seems to be in it's shadow. Good point there.

Why can't we just assume that the area surrounding that bridge is in fact the Shalebridge District of the City. I think it makes perfect sense. Its right next to the Old Quarter. Maybe once part of the Old Quarter but when buildings began sprouting up on the bridge and expanding over it. This area became a district as it was convinient to have a warden centered on the bridge. Since the cradle in DS is right next to that bridge I think it fits just right.

The way I am reading your map, then Ambush SQ is siutated just above the "SOUTH" label in yr map. If the note on the Ambush map points NW to Shalebridge, then it needs to be moved down. Basically I would just swap it's location with the T3 SQ ... they line up much better in other ways this way too, for instance, the T3 cutscene locates the fountain a bit further north, and it brings the Crippled Burrick closer to the Docks. :)
The Ambush SQ is below the label. T3 SQ is above it, naturally, since that's where the fountain is. It can't be located anywhere else. Ambush could go down even more, though. I'll see what I can do.

Believe or not, that's what we just said. :laff:
Shall we gather the evidence, then, and go over it all once to be sure? That list could fit nicely into Morbus's site at the same go, I think.
