I`d recommend trying a remake of Resident Evil in the SS2 engine before even attempting something like that.
As has been said, SS2 already is about as RE as it can be.
How about this instead-- use the Thief universe as the setting, with a number of interconnected maps comprising a large indoor bazaar. Suddenly, oh no, zombie invasion!
Alas, it would be quite the ambitious project, even though very little custom content would be required (beyond reskinning the interface to look Thiefy, and creating some fun weapons).

i still say we should resurrect your old "shock FMs in thief engine" idea. that's one of the best ideas i've seen this year and it never went anywhere.

Well, I started playing around with reskinning the Thief interface to look like SS2. Stalled out at the loadout screen, as that's totally unlike any of SS2's interface screens.

I think its been mentioned before but due to thief's missions being all stand alone i don't think its edition of the dark engine is capible of doing interconnected missions.
Would be nice though.

Yes, that's why I suggested doing this in the SS2 version of the Dark engine.

true, but shockthief FMs (as opposed to thiefshock- thief in SS) don't need to be interconnected/shocky, etc. it's just regular, thief-style FMs in the same universe as system shock. and like thief that opens itself up to a lot of different themes, such as an abandoned subway/sewer/tunnel system if you're going for horror/exploration, or a lightly guarded office after hours if you're trying to steal information or whatever. in other words, interconnectivity isn't necessary.
