I hate how time is given to loons like this, even that bandwidth is being wasted when people watch the video.
It's just not physiologically plausible, for reasons others have stated. Forget energy, the water loss is just insane.
yeah, he is on the 15th day of continuous cctv surveillance without having anything even remotely resembling food or water. I don't understand how he can be seen talking, meditating, cleaning his room, hell LIVING at this stage. What a loon.

Get James Randi to check if things are even done properly.
The man would have to have a complete different function on his cells for this to be possible. Does he have a normal body temperature for instance? If yes, then he is losing energy all the time...and MUST replace it.

15th day my ass. I don't believe it. He's having food and water smuggled in, no question.
If he doesn't need any energy input then he doesn't need oxygen. Turn the oxygen off, let's see what happens.

Hmm... Must get pretty crammed inside those tight little boxes of yours.;)

It's high-school science.

Talking of tight little boxes didn't David Blaine pull a similar stunt whilst being suspended from a crane in London?

How many times through the ages have science been revised in light of new discoveries? I'm not saying this particular story is true, I'm not saying it is not. I'm saying I believe that it is plausible that a human being can absorb sufficient amounts of energy to survive without eating or drinking in the traditional sense.
SubJeff on 6/5/2010 at 23:18
Sure. He'll need a few hundred calories a day. If he can get it, and replace his daily water loss, without eating or drinking he'll be fine. Possible?

My previous joking aside, this is getting pretty interesting. I love how people are calling bullshit in the face of CONSTANT VIDEO SURVEILLANCE BY MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS. Which magic is more bullshit if your going to think like that? The magic of him being legitimate in his claim, or the magic of him smuggling in food/water and not getting caught? He's pretty much stuck in solitary confinement there, and I'd welcome anyone to ask a prison guard how often people sneak things into solitary and don't get caught. ( And thats WITHOUT being under the camera 24/7 )
My main question to the "he is bullshitting" people is.. How? Are you suggesting there is a conspiracy among the doctors, staff, people viewing the CCTV and all the attention focused on this locally? I'm not swaying to one side or the other on this, but calling bullshit on this requires some degree of an explanation. If were talking some "eastern guru" with a 1-900 self help line then yeah, that would be acceptable. But in this case there is what appears to be actual, verifiable, indisputable evidence of the understood norms being trampled on by an old man.
AFAIK he hasn't asked for money or anything, and the fellow seems to be one devoutly religious motherfucker. I doubt he would be conspiring to bullshit the world about eastern meditation unless there was some monetary gain from having people believe that.. What would he do, sell his body to science for a million dollars? Let people study his false claims and expose him as a fraud? I'm not seeing a real end game to revealing this to science if its a scam. It would be way easier to just lie to gullible people and make money off them then allow science to objectively study his claims.
I'm not putting anything on the table for exactly how I think this is happening, but I've gotta say this is some VERY interesting stuff. Even if it turns out to be a con I will be impressed at the scale and audacity of it.

Book deal.
