Ah, okay—thanks for checking. Anyway, you saved me from trying to make this my first DML project . . .

The only way to make the UDM (dark.gam) working in New Dark is to install the HD mod and using its provided difficulty mod. It´s almost the same but people won´t stop their conversations when you get near. That problem exists in the original UDM.

Sorry, I don't understand why the Ultimate Difficulty Darkmod gamesys doesn't work in NewDark if you simply replace the old one with it? You should at least play all original missions without errors and the benefits of the patch.
In the past (before NewDark) I studied most of the changes in the UDM myself in order to incorporate some aspects in my own gamesys for my own (unpublished) FMs.
Most changes are trivial enhanced like speed/health of AI. Better vision cones for AI, better awareness multipliers, and Garrett is generally more visible (makes it easier for the AI to spot him in low light scenes).
But there are two major changes that altered the gamesys quite a bit.
* The new foot step system - running on all floors is louder (can alert guards even on stone or wood)
Sneaking on tiled/metal floor is quieter. Great way to emphasis sneaking and punish running around.
* New behavior for guards: They run to other guards to alarm them if they find a dead/unconscious body or gave up a chase after they found you.
Sadly, I never took time to study the second part, but I fully reimplemented the first part myself. It's definitely not trivial, because you need to add many things to the gamesys, but it was definitely worth the effort. Maybe I can get behind this foot step system once more, I initially wanted to publish a FM with that system anyway.

it does - if your T1/TG is manually updated with NewDark, just replace the gamesys and you are running. this will probably break FMs. you can try to use it with a TFixed install as well, rename the difficulty gamesys to tfix.gam and drop it into the USERMODS folder. some things will break (candles, for example), and everything that has been fixed in the TFix gamesys will be unfixed, but the game will mostly work, and the difficulty will be increased.

Yeah, I read your post and agreed, but it seems some still think it doesn't work out so easily.
But just to clarify one thing: The Ultimate Difficulty Mod will break any FM with a custom gamesys (which are nearly all of them nowadays) - this mod was designed for the original mission only and should only be played with such.
To be fair, I don't even know what changes were made on the gamesys by NewDark. I didn't discover many flaws previous of NewDark. For example, candles where never supposed to get extinguished in the first place but now it is possible, which changes the mission design a bit here and there. Other than that, the gamesys in T1 has some imperfection the Thief 2 ones fixed, but those are easy fixes like collision size of certain objects or the wrong materials.
As far as I know the AI or the sound hasn't been changed at all, has it?

NewDark made no changes to the gamesys, it does not include any updated version of dark.gam. I assume you mean changes made by TFix.
DarkThief Darek on 7/12/2017 at 06:00
Oh yeah, right. I mean the upgraded gamesys from TFix. But as far as I know there is a upgraded version for T2 as well.
I just wondered if I miss out on some important features if I still use the original gamesys.
Otherwise installing and using the Ultimate Difficulty Mod would be a no brainer, even with NewDark.
