I plan on having a 2 player game soon. We both consider ourselves veteran FPS players so we suspect SS2 might be a tad too easy even with the Impossible mod for MP.
Gameplay wouldnt improve if we where to simply limit ourselves to certain weapons, that would only make the game less diverse and interesting.
Are there any mods that can make it more difficult or settings we could change?.

I have never played multiplayer, but if you have to share cyber modules, Impossible is gonna be a challenge.

Multiplayer is usally set to hard which isn't very hard when you are two or more. But (
http://www.strangebedfellows.de/index.php/topic,61.0.html#diff) there's a mod by Crion to change it to impossible.

There is no 'sharing' of cybermodules in MP. When a player picks up some cybermodules, they are also given to all the other players.

I'm pretty sure the impossible mod is going to be challenging enough for multiplayer. And if not, making a multiplayer difficulty mod is pretty easy, you just need to install the game's editor Dromed, and edit some parameters under Editors -> Gamesys Parameters -> Difficulty Params. Params for all the difficulties are there so it's easy to make comparisons. Then save the gamesys as shock2.gam (backing up your original one first)
Hell you can even have a multiplayer session through the editor (it includes the game) and be able to switch to edit mode at anytime to alter the gameworld from the editor then go back in.

The impossible mod is only really impossible depending on what classes you play.
When I played through with G'Len on impossible, he went Navy with repair/modify, and I went Psi/Hacking. He also grabbed the pistol/ar and I grabbed the shotgun for a bit of an added punch.
We had a fairly easy time until we hit The Rick, when we had no more hypos, health packs, or much ammo. There were entire sections that we RAN through.
You're both veteran players, but how familiar are you with the game? That's what it really comes down to. I consider us both to be pretty knowledgable, but there were still some areas that were a huge challenge.

Whenever my brothers and I would do multi-player, we'd do fine except for one of us would go through a bulkhead without the other's consent and piss us all off, and those other two were too much of pansies to finish BotM.

I don't enjoy the BotM much myself.
