One of the most effective methods in my opinion is pickpocketing. If you have a halfway decent sneak skill it's pretty easy. The best places are mages guilds. Just wait until they're sleeping, quick save and pick their pocket. If they realize, just reload and try again. This will give you between 50 to 120 gold every pick. I build up money very fast this way. It works like a charm and it also increases your sneak level. :D
